How do lawyers get cases in France?

Are they assigned to them or do they pick them or do clients pick what lawyers they want?

Honestly, even if he picked the case for whatever reason… just hearing the stories and seeing any of the evidence would drive most sane people to suicidal ideation I think.

It seems like the lawyer wanted to be a good person but felt evil for having represented that monster, and I don’t blame him.
