Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus on 20 Jun 18:26 next collapse

Oh, i am and some others too, but it would take someone with an army to fucking bomb Israel back to the stone age to stop those madmen. I never thought i would say that, but if Israel vanished in a giant nuclear fireball, it would be a net positive for the world at this point.

ryper@lemmy.ca on 20 Jun 18:41 collapse

Israel disappearing would probably be a big step towards peace in the Middle East, given their tendency to start shit with their neighbors.

I told every politician that represents my address taking AIPAC money is a nonstarter for my vote a long time ago. They didn’t give a fuck. Being angry enough has nothing to do with it, they won’t / don’t care until supporting isn’t real starts losing them money. And this blue no matter who shit some people love to throw around explicitly helps further genocide. Never vote AIPAC, no matter who.

MAJOR DISCLAIMER THIS IS NOT MEDICAL ADVICE THIS IS MY OWN EXPERIENCE

There’s that, and there are a lot of chemical imbalances that are covered up by SSRIs. I have a MTHFR (MoTHerFuckeR gene yes the capitalization is important) (dear gods I’ve typed that phrase so many times my autocarrot knows it) mutation, so I cannot methylize folate, so if I do not eat methylated folate (as a pill supplement), it is bad. SSRIs mask that “bad”. If I take methylated folate at the right dose I am myself. If I SSRI it up, I’m a zombie. Took years to figure everything out and the right balance, and I’m still learning shit about my other defects. But it took a lot of work to get to the place where I could get off the SSRIs, and there were more than a few failed (md approved) attempts.

panthera_@lemmy.today on 20 Jun 18:12 next collapse

The UN should investigate to determine if this is true.

Mihies@programming.dev on 20 Jun 18:14 next collapse

Israel has been using it for a long time and nobody does nothing.

panthera_@lemmy.today on 20 Jun 18:19 collapse

If the UN investigates and determines that Israel is using white phosphorus, the UN could condemn Israel.

MurrayL@lemmy.world on 20 Jun 18:45 next collapse

The UN has officially condemned Israel well over 100 times. I doubt one more will make much difference.

panthera_@lemmy.today on 20 Jun 19:41 collapse

Did the US join the condemnation? If the UN determines that Israel has been using White Phosphorus in a way which violates the Geneva Convention, the US might join. Otherwise, Trump will have to explain the reason.

Mihies@programming.dev on 20 Jun 20:22 next collapse

That’s an awesome level of naivety. Dude, wake up, Israel is committing genocide in broad daylight and the Orange is enabling them. You think some phosphorus will change anything?

panthera_@lemmy.today on 21 Jun 03:31 collapse

Yes, because proving the use of white phosphorus in violation of the Geneva Convention is easier.

tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 21 Jun 20:32 collapse

They’ve already proved it with soil samples elsewhere that Israel has attacked. Their crimes have been documented in every possible way and brought to the UN, for decades. Official UN bodies have condemned them. Israel and the US instead says you can’t trust the UN or Human Rights Watch or any other monitoring group.

panthera_@lemmy.today on 22 Jun 03:14 collapse

Soil samples per se doesn’t indicate illegal use of white phosphorus (WP) since the Geneva Convention permits some uses of WP. Bring the evidence before the Security Council for discussion. Israel’s actions in Lebanon are part of the Iran deal.

tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 22 Jun 03:48 collapse

That is true, but as a permanent member of the UNSC the US vetoes any measure that would hold Israel accountable. But yeah it would still useful to have the discussion and illustrate their crimes and to have the record of it.

panthera_@lemmy.today on 22 Jun 14:17 collapse

Correct. Israel would be embarrassed if the evidence shows it has been using white phosphorus (WP) illegally since Israel denies it. Also, Israel’s actions in Lebanon are now included in the Iran deal. Israel’s illegal use of WP would get sympathy for Iran.

trxxruraxvr@lemmy.world on 20 Jun 20:35 next collapse

Trump will have to explain the reason.

Trump hasn’t had any sane explanation for anything he has done this term. He doesn’t care. He just mumbles some gibberish and attacks the next country.

panthera_@lemmy.today on 21 Jun 03:27 collapse

Even if he doesn’t care, he would still have to explain the reason he is not condemning Israel for illegally using white phosphorus.

It would be embarrassing to Israel since they deny using it against the rules of the Geneva Convention.

trxxruraxvr@lemmy.world on 20 Jun 20:32 collapse

What’s embarrassing is that the country trying to be a Jewish ethnostate is committing genocide. If that is not embarrassing enough, a violation of the Geneva convention definitely won’t be worse for them.

panthera_@lemmy.today on 21 Jun 03:29 collapse

Both would be embarrassing but proving the illegal use of white phosphorus would be easier.

Israel war crimes in the war on Gaza. They’ve cut electricity, fuel, food and water to Gaza’s population and severely curtailed life-saving humanitarian aid, all of which are acts of collective punishment. The ICC has issued arrest warrants naming Israeli leaders and alleging war crimes and crimes against humanity (including starvation as a method of warfare). They have also been accused multiple times of attempting genocide. Israel is accused of the gravest war crimes - how governments respond could haunt them for years to come

I can’t find any accusations of Russia using white phospherous - EDIT (thanks @Gust@piefed.social)

The two wars are different in that The war in Ukraine is a state-to-state conflict, while the one in Gaza shows an asymmetric war in the besieged enclave

FACTBOX - Ukraine and Gaza wars compared

The Israeli wars are just dirtier than anything most have seen or heard of. In the UK you are more likely to be awarded something for protesting against the Russian invasion of Ukraine than anything else. But protesting against the more violent, more aggressive and more illegal wars commited by Israel will likely get you arrested and possibly treated as a terrorist.

Let that sink in.

Slotos@feddit.nl on 20 Jun 21:53 next collapse

WereHacker@lemmy.ml on 21 Jun 07:11 collapse

Some of the politicians are definitely hypocrites yeah. And racism counts for some of it as well. But mainly I think it is good ol’ imperialism at work. The politicians feel they have to support Israel and they don’t know what to do about the genocide, and simply ignore it. This is not an excuse. Everyone complicit needs to go to the Haag.

Babalugats@feddit.uk on 20 Jun 23:21 next collapse

I was not comparing the wars for the wars. I was going to explain at the end, I ran out of time, but I naively thought it would be understood. I can only say what was in my head when I posted it. Or you did understand it, and approve of what’s happening.

I am not (I thought obviously) condoning any war.

I’m not saying that one war is “better” or “worse” than any other war.

My main point (really, my only point) is that Starmers government compared the two and decided that one is bad and the other is good.

Despite all the atrocities that Israel do (which I was trying to accentuate in the post) - People are getting locked up as terrorists for agreeing with Palestine action.

it’s fucking ridiculous

in the UK we can be arrested for protesting against a genocide.

Well, yes. But afaik Starmers is the only one that you can get arrested and have it reclassified as a terrorist action and imprisoned for lengthy sentences. Or get arrested as a terrorist. But unlikely to happen due the exact same offence if protesting a different war.
