The United States has announced fresh economic sanctions on Cuba’s president and some of his immediate family, alongside members of the Castro family, in Washington’s latest ramping up of pressure on its communist-led neighbour.
Among those targeted were the son and a grandson of former president Raúl Castro, who no longer holds an official position but remains a key figure on decisions about the future of the island.
President Miguel Diaz-Canel, his wife and stepson were also hit by the latest Treasury department sanctions issued on Thursday, as was the ministry of the revolutionary armed forces and several other entities.

Why doesn't it tell us what the sanctions actually are?
Raul Castro is 95 years old. There is no way a 95 year old is secretly super influential. America is just going after whoever and making up reasons why after the fact.

What? Trump’s 80, he’s incredibly influential. Even when he was voted out.
80 vs 95. Raul was fighting in an armed rebellion while Trump was still shitting himself.
The fact that he’s been such a part of Cuban history for so long supports the argument that “yes he will be extremely influential despite being old”. Trump didn’t even enter politics until he was old.
When’s the last time you talked to a 95 year old or saw one walking? Like tge physical and mental endurance isn’t there.
Here’s Noam Chomsky at 93 <img alt="" src="https://mander.xyz/pictrs/image/119da60a-c620-4cbe-92f5-5d32c567ba59.jpeg">
Being “influential” does not mean he has to be out on a balcony giving firey speeches. He can just release a press release or have his supporters spread his thoughts.
And again - Trump can’t string together 8 words into a coherent sentence yet yet he’s influential.
We’ve been on economically torturing them for decades, and then justify it by saying “They’re terrible, look how they make their people live!”
They’re doing the best they can with the most powerful nation in history standing on their chest. Why would they look at us as anything but a brutal enemy? Since they live right next door, maybe we should play nice, and perhaps persuade them to leave the Soviet sphere of influence and join ours.
If they did that, the Cuban people would be subject to the same living conditions as every other caribbean island.
All that terrible tourism money rolling in, horrible.
