Naich@piefed.world on 07 Apr 05:23 collapse

The whole fucking article is just euphemisms.

Typhoon@lemmy.ca on 07 Apr 08:02 collapse

What do you expect from a site called oilprice.com?

vpol@feddit.uk on 07 Apr 05:02 next collapse

It’s called robbing. They rob Venezuela.

deleted@lemmy.world on 07 Apr 12:30 collapse

Yeah Venezuela just got mugged by the US.

Treczoks@lemmy.world on 07 Apr 06:12 next collapse

“Securing”, my ass. I don’t know how much that is, but it have a good chance to be the biggest heist ever. Trump seems to like superlatives associated with his name…

Making sure there is still something in the vault after every other country pulled back their gold out of the USA.

There is not enough by a factor of 3; France was the smart one at the table to realize it first

Steal, that should read

I wonder what Venezuelans think of this. Do they feel freer after the military operation that removed Maduro? Is Maduro’s No. 2 a better president to them? Has life gotten better? What do they think of this new leader letting others take what belongs to the Venezuelan people? Do they know when the next elections will take place?

Railcar8095@lemmy.world on 07 Apr 09:41 collapse

Small sample/anecdotic, but the ones I know see it a s “not freed, only under new management”.

Mind is people that already left due to how things were, so they had little love for maduro to begin with.

Lanske@lemmy.world on 07 Apr 09:08 next collapse

The media shouldn’t be using words like ‘secure’, it’s plain stealing, robbing. Nothing else

Goodlucksil@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 07 Apr 09:42 next collapse

The English-language media is bought by the US

ms_lane@lemmy.world on 07 Apr 09:44 collapse

France was smart, sold their gold in-situ and purchased new gold in EU that is stored in France.

Never have to worry about the fact that US probably already sold the gold, since they sold it in-situ.

  • The U.S. has brokered new gold deals with Venezuela as part of a broader push to reshape the country’s resource sector under its influence.

  • Venezuela is opening its oil and mining industries to foreign investment to rebuild output after years of decline.

  • Serious concerns remain over environmental destruction and human rights abuses linked to mining in the Orinoco region.

In short; oil.

On one hand, I guess it’s good that we are no longer pretending to not be an imperial nation and have given in fully to empire.

On the other hand, fuck me I’m so ashamed of this country. I wish people could pay attention to the shit we are doing.
