Iran has more credibility than the orange pedophile

NuXCOM_90Percent@lemmy.zip on 23 Mar 14:28 collapse

I would not at all go that far. Iran’s regime is horrendous and they were murdering and abducting civilians by the thousands for the past year or two. They are just as in need of a propaganda win as fuckface.

Remember everyone: Just because one side is an asshole doesn’t mean the other isn’t one too.

Hubi@feddit.org on 23 Mar 14:40 next collapse

Every side in this conflict sucks, but I’d still believe the officials in Iran over the officials in the US. The American government is very obviously and methodically lying to our faces every single day and without shame. I don’t see a reason to assume the same for Iran, even if they are terrible people.

NuXCOM_90Percent@lemmy.zip on 23 Mar 14:55 collapse

Fascist dictators lie.

Just because you like the lie you are hearing doesn’t mean it is more likely to be true than not.

I am inclined to agree with the official Iranian line on this specific topic. But that has less to do with what Iran is saying and more to do with what I have gleamed from the OSINT community and third party news orgs.

Fascist dictators lie.

Which side are you talking about? Honestly, it needs clarification

Hubi@feddit.org on 23 Mar 16:00 collapse

Of course dictators lie. But yeah, looking at the situation at hand, Iran does not have much to gain from lying in a public statement that is not directed towards their own population. The US definitely does though, they do it all the time.

NuXCOM_90Percent@lemmy.zip on 23 Mar 16:47 collapse

Iran doesn’t have “much to gain” from insisting they defeated The Evil United States and that no matter what the US throws at them they won’t give up the Strait?

The US is still, technically, the muscle of The Western World… at least right now. Saying that you withstood them (and all signs are that Iran has) is a HUGE “win” for a regime. Both in terms of making sure the people who were rebelling a few months back know they have no hope and nobody will come to save them but also to look strong in case any of the other superpowers want to back them up as a puppet regime.

And a LOT of the claims the Iranian regime have made have been rather suspect over the course of this war. A lot of it is “fair” murkiness when things were even more chaotic. But even their recent missile attack in the Indian Ocean is a mess of carefully leaked verbiage as each side decides whether they want to call it a failed attack or a warning shot. And I want to say the US/Israel started as the former before pivoting to the latter to try to convince Europe to join them.

precisely. a point often forgotten or overlooked.

Doesn’t change the fact that Irans fucking war propaganda is more credible than the tweets of the President of the United States of America.

Akh@lemmy.world on 23 Mar 15:14 next collapse

As someone else mentioned Iran is morally reprehensible but they haven’t been found lying so often like Israel and US.

NuXCOM_90Percent@lemmy.zip on 23 Mar 15:17 collapse

They are a regime that has imprisoned and murdered civilians by the thousands. They didn’t like TO YOU because you weren’t paying attention.

Look, I realize we all want clear good guys and bad guys. And your favorite influencers LOVE to play on that to get views for their twitch channels. But this isn’t even a case where “Well, Hamas does a lot of evil things but they are morally justified in my opinion”. This is two evil fucking regimes going to war for no apparent reason.

Trust third parties. Trust facts. Don’t trust fascist fucking dictators.

Jhex@lemmy.world on 23 Mar 15:34 collapse

This is two evil fucking regimes going to war for no apparent reason.

So getting bombed by the USA equals “This is two evil fucking regimes going to war for no apparent reason”?? or you were referring to Israel and the USA?

You see, this is exactly why you are losing credibility. You are trying to seem neutral but the bias just oozes out.

We are all aware Iran sucks, but you seem to be clinging to the “the USA is fighting for democracy” BS that was stale a decade ago

No. I am not. Again. It is incredibly obvious you view the world as good versus evil. You cannot look at an event without deciding who is the good guy and who is the bad guy and you ignore whatever facts get in the way of that. A LOT of people do that. It is a symptom of the infantilization of so much Western media. But that isn’t real life and all you are doing by the constant “gotta hand it to them” nonsense is literally caping for murderous bastards.

Because, like I said,

This is two evil fucking regimes going to war for no apparent reason.

Jhex@lemmy.world on 23 Mar 15:47 collapse

Where do you get this? I am simply stating that, in this situation, trump has NO credibility and therefore I tend to believe Iran’s opposing statement

It seems clear this is your take on things and you are just imposing it on everyone else

This is two evil fucking regimes going to war for no apparent reason.

Again which 2 are you referring to? Iran and the USA? or the USA and Israel?

jaycifer@lemmy.world on 23 Mar 16:03 collapse

So getting bombed by the USA equals “This is two evil fucking regimes going to war for no apparent reason”??

I don’t want to get dragged into the rest of this argument, but yes getting bombed and then retaliating with missiles does mean that Iran has gone to war. It doesn’t mean they started it, which is very worth noting, but it does mean they’ve gone to war.

Iran can be considered an evil regime, the USA can be considered an evil regime, therefore the two of them being at war does mean it can be said that two evil regimes are going to war.

Jhex@lemmy.world on 23 Mar 15:30 next collapse

I am aware of everything you said… yet Iran STILL has more credibility than the child rapist pressy

I am not, AT ALL, saying Iran is not an asshole, that’s just your strawman

NuXCOM_90Percent@lemmy.zip on 23 Mar 15:35 collapse

There is no strawman. I was literally responding to

Iran has more credibility than the orange pedophile

In this specific situation? Iran’s official line is more likely to be correct. If we were to look at things tomorrow, that very well might flip around. If you consider being correct in the moment to be “credibility” then… you probably should reassess your decision making skills.

Regardless: To quote the great one

issuing correction on a previous post of mine, regarding the terror group ISIL. you do not, under any circumstances, “gotta hand it to them”

Jhex@lemmy.world on 23 Mar 15:50 collapse

In this specific situation? Iran’s official line is more likely to be correct.

Then what the fuck are you arguing against? you literally said you would “not go as far” as to believe Iran when I claim I did just to backpedal here

If we were to look at things tomorrow, that very well might flip around

Did I say I will believe Iran forever? no, that was you making up a strawman… you are creating stuff out of thin air to attack those instead of what people actually said… that is the definition of a strawman

Preposter said they have more credibility, not that they are less horrible. I feel that’s an important distinction

NuXCOM_90Percent@lemmy.zip on 23 Mar 17:26 collapse

Its one and the same.

They don’t have any more (or less) credibility than the us government has. If the Iranian regime says something about how the war is going, assume it is a lie by default.

It is just in this specific case, what they say tends to line up with what third parties are corroborating.

Again. Fascist regimes lie. They don’t HAVE credibility as a result. That doesn’t mean everything they say is a lie, but it does mean everything they say should be verified by third parties.

No need to try and figure out how to make both sides consistent when one side in particular is a habitual liar. (I’d argue Iran is more of a strategic liar - I don’t trust them inherently, but at this point I trust them hands down over Trump…)
