For the record, you should all have a go bag. Not like doomsday prepper go bags with a dozen cross bows and a semi truck full of ammunition and shit, but some clothes, some food. Medication and basic first aid, etc. copies of all your important documents.

Especially in the US with how FEMA is going. Have a plan. Have supplies for the plan.

But… eh…. Prepping for this ? Naw.

Ill preface this by saying I have no preparations at all, but that said, in the event of societal collapse I think I would much rather have a semi full of ammunition and shit. I dont think my birth certificate or a house title will go far in the apocalyptic dystopia

I don’t know, have you been paying attention? A birth certificate might save you from being sent to a prison in South America.

If ICE and citizenship are artifacts of society, how do you think anyone would get deported in a post-societal apocalypse?

Plus theyre just kidnapping and deporting whoever they want anyways…

FuglyDuck@lemmy.world on 02 Jul 20:09 collapse

Yeah.

So, total societal collapse is rather unlikely. But a storm or earthquake or fire knocking out power, internet, etc for a week or two is…. Extremely likely.

So while the semi full of ammunition would’ve been more helpful in the latter scenario, it’s not so helpful in the far, far more likely scenario.

The harm comes from the mental health and societal impacts of the “always be afraid” mentality pushed by public figures and the media
