Good.

Trump started this.

Trump has promised repeatedly to keep the strait open.

Will things get more expensive here? Very likely. Still better value than sending thousands of British troops on another pointless adventure in the Middle East at the behest of a war mongering yank.

There’s also value in making him even less popular at home as this is very likely to do if it drags out with no clear end. If the dems got control of the both the senate and the house in November everyone probably would have to deal with less of his bs. Even better if the majority becomes big enough for them to do more. There’s probably even a point where even his own party would start to finally distance themselves from him more.

If they do distance themselves over this then everyone over there in the uNazied States of america needs to not let them forget that they were ok with all the child raping he did over the years, the blatant lies and corruption (…plus everything else, which is too much to mention here).

Agreed, I don’t mean to suggest anyone should go back to viewing the Republicans as a normal political party if they do. It would be purely opportunistic on their part.

It’s a nice thought, but Donald and his ilk are never going to be held accountable in any meaningful way. Here, the people in power make sure there’s cover for the criminals, always. Hell, we didn’t even hold the Confederate generals meaningfully accountable and they killed 600,000 American soldiers.

Record high gas prices and dead soldiers going into midterms, let’s see how it works out for them.

FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world on 16 Mar 12:52 collapse

We’re already seeing it. Donald has lost nearly every election in 2025 and 2026, and most are in districts he won by double digits in 2024.

This means that even if he wants to try to fight dirty, he really can’t, because clearly the Republican Party can’t accurately project which districts will be safe in 2026. The downside of all this is that it’s not going to change a whole lot, because Dems are not going to elect 30 Mamdanis or Kat Abughazalehs, and that’s what we need if we want actual opposition.

Abso-fucking-lutely. It gives people cover to oppose him politically, which is desperately needed.

But he’ll let them use air bases here to load up bombs to drop on kids

Now he needs to tell them that any use of UK based facilities for aggression against a sovereign state will result in an order for all US personnel to gtfo until their adminstration can behave.

I honestly thought he’d cave. I’m actually surprised by this, which is weird really.

Besides I thought the orange child raping buffoon had that ‘Bored of Peace’ thing to call on now?

phutatorius@lemmy.zip on 16 Mar 09:55 next collapse

Well, maybe he’s growing a spine now that McSweeney and Mandrax are out of the picture.

I’m unconvinced, but I do admit that it’s remotely possible.

Theres other posts here about them considering sending mine hunting drones or other stuff.

Same annoucements and speeches but with opposite spin.

saw another headline about this that hit the nail on the head. called Trump a “transactional president,” which is half of the matter. the other half is he reneges on the transactions all the time.

of course, there’s also the tiny little problem of this war not being necessary for anything other than diverting focus on another problem the president has, and his buttering up Bibi for access to the soon-to-be annexed Gaza Strip and West Bank for all those luxury high rises he “was only kidding about.”

mlg@lemmy.world on 16 Mar 11:32 next collapse

I find it funny that British media has been making headlines about UK’s opposition to the war despite the fact that they let the US use Diego Garcia (even after publicly opposing it) and despite the fact that they are deployed to Cyprus and flying defensive sorties all over the middle east.

I don’t even think this is major thing to report considering literally every other nation has already refused to send their warships into the Strait of Hormuz.

FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world on 16 Mar 12:15 collapse

Even though I’m an American, it pleases me that our allies aren’t just going along with it this time. That’s partly why the War on Terror lasted way longer than it should have, and how we were able to destroy millions of people’s lives.

In a war like this, the world gets a vote too, even if Congress won’t hold one.
