I’m disappointed in Canada for not being anti-America enough 😆

We’re trying.

well, a couple provinces aren’t and seem to think that their contributions to the country are far more significant than reality indicates…

Setting the table for the future annexation. “Mistreatment of Americans in Canada” is pretty much all the excuse they need.

Mihies@programming.dev on 19 Sep 2025 10:18 next collapse

Straight out of Putin’s playbook, right

Canada has been treating me better than the US ever has

Them: Only we’re allowed to mistreat Americans!

Didn’t Canada’s parliament just give Charlie Kirk a standing ovation? Wasn’t Alberta just talking about seceding? So is it only “elbows up” for some people?

No country is immune.

ifItWasUpToMe@lemmy.ca on 19 Sep 2025 14:34 next collapse

They did not. They gave a standing ovation to a speech.

njm1314@lemmy.world on 19 Sep 2025 17:20 next collapse

A speech in honor of Kirk.

mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca on 19 Sep 2025 19:14 next collapse

a speech about Kirk that directly referenced him

Kirk’s name should have been left out of it, the other content was fine.

T00l_shed@lemmy.world on 19 Sep 2025 23:40 collapse

I mean she wrapped it up by doting over kirk, and then the standing ovation happened, so they gave a standing ovation to her fawning over kirk

PlaidBaron@lemmy.world on 19 Sep 2025 23:58 collapse

Alberta is always talking about seceding. They never do because its all a show and theyre actually a bunch if cowards that would never do it. Just talk tough while everyone else rolls their eyes kinda thing.

Quebec on the other hand…

Dremor@lemmy.world on 20 Sep 2025 02:03 next collapse

Quebec would be welcome to the European Union any day. Hell, Canada as a whole would too.

Omgpwnies@lemmy.world on 20 Sep 2025 02:34 collapse

They don’t go through with anything because it would backfire monumentally. Alberta’s inclusion in the charter is mostly treaty lands, and to dissolve the province means the treaty owners get their land back. There’s not much of Alberta that’s not treaty lands, and the oil sands falls under that umbrella.

To top that off, the tribes who are party to that treaty have already already said they would petition to rejoin Canada
