Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
Post news articles only

It’s literally the first part of the first rule!
There are already several articles about the issue?

Edit:
Without explaining why this should be here you risk the mods removing it.
I have no idea why I’m downvoted for pointing that out?

Edit2:
OP changed the link to the article. The link to the video provided was the original link.

response to me by OP:

Thanks. I’ve edited the post to link to the same source’s text article instead (and linked the corresponding video this post originally linked to in the post body)

you’re right, but I think people are more focused that the US just invaded and conquered a nation for oil… again

2nd part of the rule:

Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.

Nice. 👍

Goddam people are weird here???
The post being changed to link to the article means it’s more likely to stay up, and the video is still linked in the accompanying text to the post.
How is it possible to be so butthurt as to downvote this?

LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 04 Jan 01:53 collapse

Is it not an article at the top, and a video added in the description?

Or are you complaining that the source isn’t considered news by you

frongt@lemmy.zip on 04 Jan 05:13 next collapse

It was edited. Originally the link was only to the video.

LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 04 Jan 07:20 collapse

And I’m downvoted for asking. Oh well. Guess we should just trust the lot and never ask, lol

Buffalox@lemmy.world on 04 Jan 12:23 next collapse

There are lots of weird downvotes here??
All I can say is it wasn’t me. It’s fair to ask questions.

frongt@lemmy.zip on 04 Jan 20:38 collapse

Do not concern yourself too much with downvotes. In this case, it was probably because they can’t tell it was edited so your comment looks out of place.

Read his response to me later, OP changed it.

did the US, just conquer a whole nation overnight?

BarbecueCowboy@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 03 Jan 23:31 next collapse

I mean, maybe… Still a lot of work to do for that to be ensured, but as far as international politics go, there are so many people talking about the US that the US can mostly just ignore it and that would have been the largest roadblock here.

Basically, hard to think of a better place to be if someone wanted Venezuela to be the 51st state.

cypherpunks@lemmy.ml on 03 Jan 23:54 next collapse

did the US, just conquer a whole nation overnight?

if you only listen to US media you might think so; at the press conference today Trump said “we’ll run it” as if they already control it, and he also claimed that Vice President (now acting president) Delcy Rodríguez told US Secretary of State Marco Rubio that “we’ll do whatever you need”. However, a few hours later:

The Vice President of Venezuela demanded the release of Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores during the National Defense Council, reaffirming Maduro as the sole president and at the same time announcing the activation of the Citizen Security Agency and national power to defend independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, which they denounce as attacked.

so, no, although the US has kidnapped their president, at this point in time they have not actually conquered the nation.

They couped it, but the signals were there some months ago, and it has been something in the works for about two decades. I hate it, I hate them and everyone who enables it. 😐

frongt@lemmy.zip on 04 Jan 00:40 next collapse

No, So far we’ve only kidnapped their leader and are holding him hostage.

Doomsider@lemmy.world on 05 Jan 23:40 collapse

Naw, dropped a bunch of bombs, murdered a bunch of people, and kidnapped a leader.

And now USA has been out threatening Mexico too. 😬

surely this will be enough to stop him, right??

this feckless impotent bag of vile rotten shit won’t stop unless forced to stop.

I wonder how long the streets in the US will remain relatively safe before other countries like Canada and Mexico band together to stop him.

badmancrooks@lemmy.ca on 04 Jan 21:15 collapse

Hey man, Canadian here. If you are an American, me and the rest of the world would actually love it if you and your patriotic brethren could band together with that plucky revolutionary spirit of yours and exercise your own Constitutional rights to take up the arms you own against the tyrannical government you allowed to come to power. It would be real cool if you could, Idk? Lay down your own lives for the ideals of life, liberty and the American dream BEFORE we have to lay down ours to save us from you, and you from yourselves. Just a thought.

GreenKnight23@lemmy.world on 05 Jan 01:35 next collapse

don’t know where you got your information but 2A Americunts are the reason why we’re in the mess we’re in.

as for putting my life down for my country, couldn’t give a shit less. all I can protect is my family.

if you’d looking to scratch that civil war itch though, might I recommend the 2024 movie, “Civil War”? although life isn’t a movie, this movie really drives home the absolute clusterfuck a civil war in America would be.

badmancrooks@lemmy.ca on 05 Jan 18:09 next collapse

You asked when Canadians and Mexicans would come and save you, and I don’t know where you get your info from, but we don’t have as many people or guns up here, and I’m aware that your typical 2A American is the reason you’re in the mess you’re in, but if I got my info from the right public school system, your Constitution isn’t just exclusive to Republicans and gun stores sell guns to Democrats too?

Mulligrubs@lemmy.world on 05 Jan 18:18 collapse

Ha! Odds are pretty good the USA arms your country; we are the biggest arms dealer on Earth. Stop buying our weapons if you don’t like it.

You feed the beast, in one way or another.

badmancrooks@lemmy.ca on 05 Jan 18:22 collapse

They’re seemingly American, so yeah, seems pretty likely that Americans probably buy and sell guns to Americans. Up here in Canada we don’t even need to actually purchase them from you for them to make their way across the Lakes and end up here anyway, so yeah, it’s a little hard to just “stop buying them” when the sheer amount of guns you make nearly constitutes a public emergency in Canada.

Mulligrubs@lemmy.world on 05 Jan 18:27 collapse

Firearm sales have TRIPLED since 2000, not even counting military equipment, which we make the most of, also.

Every state of the USA is part of the arms industry, even Hawaii. We make bullets, missiles, bombs, and everything else, and ship it all around the world. If there’s a battle or war, we’re making money off of it.

Doomsider@lemmy.world on 05 Jan 23:38 collapse

If you believe this drivel I have a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn. What you say is in the correct spirit, but your assumptions are way off.

badmancrooks@lemmy.ca on 06 Jan 15:07 collapse

Which part? Give me a breakdown.

Doomsider@lemmy.world on 06 Jan 17:22 collapse

Sure, plucky revolutionary spirit? The American Revolution was lead by business leaders who wanted to control the colony. They used propaganda, assassination, bombings, etc. and turned colonists against each other.

It was a country created out of a lie that went on to commit some of the worst atrocities known to man. George Washington, our first President, was on his way to becoming the world’s first billionaire adjusted for inflation. He would have gotten there if he didn’t die in his sixties

The constitution, democracy, and liberalism are all part of a masterful propaganda campaign used to convince US citizens (and apparently foreigners) that there is something more to the US other than naked power (hint: there isn’t).

This is not “our” tyrannical government, it is owned by the wealthy who have always called the shots and controlled all the policy. The people historically, even if they band together and demonstrate, have had almost no effect on the death machine that is the US.

I assure you we have been laying down our lives. Just between gun deaths and overdoses we are losing 100,000 + preventable deaths every year. Apparently keeping minorities down and profits are far more important than our lives.

It is not just us either US sanctions have cost the world about 500,000 people a year for the last 50 years. Let that sink in. We have caused the death of 25 million people just because we don’t like the policies of other countries.

There is no saving the US. There is no saving the rest of the fascist world either. We could incrementally fix things and change for the better. There is always hope of course, but the reality is unless you are mega wealthy your voice will never be heard.

I wish the rest of the world could take a hint, but the income inequality grows in every country and fascism dominates every facet of our lives.
