I’ve paid in VND directly from my European card, and the cash machines recognise the Chinese payment system (though you’d have to operate them in English)

QR payments here are typically only linked to Vietnamese back accounts, so I assume this allows the Chinese tourists to use their Alipay QRs to pay in Vietnam.

Yes you can always use ATMs for cash and some places take card payments, but the majority and easiest is through QR.

I’m also a foreigner in Vietnam, but not in an area where there’s tourists (it’s not unusual for me to be the first white person someone has met) … I guess things work differently in places that have more foreigners around
