When you condemn chants while your country keep sending arms that kill palestinians. Also people.are silence about groups like Israel now in canada promoting physical confrontations and direct harassment, online and offline, targeting Palestinian supporters.

[deleted] on 07 Aug 18:08 collapse
.
mrdown@lemmy.world on 07 Aug 18:27 collapse

Israel and who arms them are the one calling for violence. Arresting people supporting an anti war group that never hurt a person or called for violence against individuals is the problem

Why don’t you treat those chants like i shot the sheriff by bob marley?

[deleted] on 07 Aug 18:58 collapse
.
mrdown@lemmy.world on 07 Aug 19:11 collapse

) How the fuck do you conflate artistic expression with a mob making death threats

Nobody did death threats idiot

You can’t kill a country so death to canada is figurative. I shot the sherif is also figurative. How dumb can you be to not the see how it’s similar.

So if i am artist i can put death to canada line in my song because it’s an artistic expression but if i use it as a political slogan about canadian complicity in genocide in a protest is not?

Get the hell out of here with your dumb excuses for arresting anti war protestors

So all the people chanting “Death to America” were being figurative? I don’t think so. Pretty sure they were being literal and you’re being untruthful.

Those who was in the protests yes they use it figuratively otherwise they would start attacking Americans civilians

Yes. And nobody will listen to your song.

More people started listening to Bob Vylan after the chants death to the IDF, i shot the sheriff did not kill Bob Marley career despite the backslash by the racists . Ton of people would listen to a song with the lyrics death to Canada and USA from a figurative and anti genocide stand point

Yes. And nobody will listen to your cause.

The Palestinians cause keep getting more popular so you are wrong again

I get that you’re upset but you’re being used by USA/Israel to undermine public sentiment towards Palestinians.

The only one who get manipulated by the Canada/USA/Israel/us is you

Likewise We are Hezbollah and We are Hamas, the groups who organized the “Death to Canada” rally, are classified as hate groups.

Canada applauded Israel terrorist attack on nuclear facilities in Iran, canada is selling arms to the terrorist state of Israel to commit genocide . What’s worse a country supporting terrorism or some group that have slogans that you don’t like and that never attacked a single individual?

Mizrachi Organization of Canada, Jewish Heritage Foundation of Canada, Ronnen Harary Foundation, Canada Charity Partners, and Heseg Foundation are all supporting israel occupation none of them are hate groups according to canada.

Many Zionists organizations was selling west bank land in the west bank , Canada did not stop anybody

So yeah i don’t think death to Canada as a chant about Canadian complicity with Israeli terrorism is problematic

queermunist@lemmy.ml on 07 Aug 19:02 collapse

The government wouldn’t crack down if they didn’t have to. They’d just ignore it.

That should tell you that they are doing something right.

queermunist@lemmy.ml on 07 Aug 19:08 next collapse

That’s also very obviously not terrorism.

targeting a private business based on ethnicity.

What are you talking about ?

Crimes don’t become legal because you had a good reason.

Vandalism do not account as terrorism. The uk arrested anti war protestors simple as that action condemned by the UN itself

The links do not support your claim that they targeted a business based on ethrnicity

Canconda@lemmy.ca on 07 Aug 20:57 collapse

OH SHIT. I misread Defense firms as Law firms.

I legit thought they were targeting private businesses.

Thank you for correcting me.

Yeaa targeting the military is fine. Stupid, but I don’t have any moral qualms with that.

I thought they were targeting private citizens.

"Charged with supporting" RIP democracy.

“Charged with supporting” RIP democracy.

Palestine Action was banned after they breached a UK military base

theguardian.com/…/pro-palestine-protesters-deface…

…cnn.com/…/palestine-action-protest-uk-airbase-se…

Free Speech is important. But what they did isn’t free speech.

mrdown@lemmy.world on 07 Aug 20:49 next collapse

For trying to stop a genocide that the uk is complicit with.

Davriellelouna@lemmy.world on 07 Aug 20:50 collapse

If you start breaking into military bases to target jets, consider yourself lucky you don’t get shot.

mrdown@lemmy.world on 07 Aug 20:53 next collapse

Those people know the risks still do it for morality and again the uk is participating in a genocide if the uk do not respect international laws why do you expect people to respect uk laws

Davriellelouna@lemmy.world on 07 Aug 21:22 collapse

If you think the Government is breaking the law, the solution isn’t breaking the law.

In Britain, you can sue the Government if you think the government is breaking the law.

dpglaw.co.uk/uk-arms-exports-to-israel-high-court…

Also, what country do you think is respecting international law? Should citizens of all countries start attacking military bases? How does that end?

Sidhean@lemmy.world on 08 Aug 01:55 next collapse

Should citizens of all countries start attacking military bases?

sure

How does that end?

better world, probably.

That’s a crime for the people who broke into a base, not a reason to ban an entire organization. Lots of activist organizations have had members do illegal things. If that’s all it takes for the government to ban them, that’s an easy bar to manufacture and/or selectively activate.

Their lawyer can appeal the decision in court.

Zaktor@sopuli.xyz on 07 Aug 21:26 next collapse

We’re on a message board giving our opinions. You’re happy to definitively say what is and isn’t free speech then come back with a dumb response about how the court will decide whether a contradictory opinion is valid. I’m not talking to the UK courts. I’m stating a principle, which is already being violated by this anti-free speech government. Law does not determine correctness.

sepi@piefed.social on 08 Aug 00:37 collapse

I have some boots that need licking in my closet. Wanna help out?

Doorbook@lemmy.world on 08 Aug 13:22 collapse

Funny because based on that they should ban Israel because their leader are committing act of war crimes and terrorism

NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io on 08 Aug 00:29 next collapse

Supporting what they did is free speech. That's the whole damn point of free speech and it's legitimately insane that in the UK the government just gets to arrest you for that.

leraje@piefed.blahaj.zone on 08 Aug 08:32 collapse

Neither is it terrorism by any rational definition of the word.

I’m totally against the proscription, but the individual idiots who broke into the base vandalised 2 air tankers with no link to Palestine, but would provide a critical role in the event Russia decided to threaten the UK with nuclear subs.

It was such a dumb move, it’s hard to believe it wasn’t a Russian op using PA as cover.
