Not pointed enough

Earthman_Jim@lemmy.zip on 07 Jan 03:43 collapse

I agree. Words won’t be enough. I think they should send a multinational trigger force to defend Greenland now, but theyre hoping a deal can still be made, it would seem.

silvadinlabop@lemmy.cafe on 07 Jan 03:44 next collapse

They don’t sound like they care about Greenland much.

Earthman_Jim@lemmy.zip on 07 Jan 03:47 collapse

I’m not sure about that. I think theyre trying very hard to not trigger king baby.

yakko@feddit.uk on 07 Jan 06:40 collapse

The tone of the letter is incredibly strained calm, isn’t it? This is how Booboo would talk to ranger Rick if they caught him about to eat a camper.

prex@aussie.zone on 07 Jan 08:04 collapse

How the letter could have been:

Cool, cool, cool. Hey, any particular reason you’re putting out this statement? Or, just, y’know, because whatever?

I know, I’m “talking” to them.

Earthman_Jim@lemmy.zip on 07 Jan 03:44 collapse

I realized too late. Lol

Lumidaub@feddit.org on 07 Jan 03:49 collapse

:) I never considered whether this type of comment might be misunderstood that way but you’re not wrong. I’ll keep this in mind in the future.

Lucky_777@lemmy.world on 07 Jan 03:47 next collapse

This admin doesn’t give a shit. They are testing the world. Respond with force now, or more countries fall. The American I knew and loved is dead. If the world unites and invades, you will have millions on your side in the states.

Earthman_Jim@lemmy.zip on 07 Jan 03:50 next collapse

I find it unfathomable that an invasion would be attempted. IMO Trump has put himself at the center of a potential Who Shot Mr Burns situation.

green_red_black@slrpnk.net on 07 Jan 04:44 next collapse

And millions will be pissed and counter attack or at least try to maintain their position (looking at you southern states.)

It’s unfortunate but an invasion is more likely to start Civil War 2 Electric Boogaloo.

The better option would be boosting the military force in Greenland & Canada (geography and annexation desires.) to basically show that yes invading other countries is not acceptable.

DokPsy@lemmy.world on 07 Jan 05:32 next collapse

Is it bad that I’m partly hoping the US pokes the Canada polar bear and they go full Geneva checklist on the administration? Wouldn’t be the first time they’ve burned the white house

green_red_black@slrpnk.net on 07 Jan 07:03 collapse

But late for that. The Ballroom is bound to demolish more than the West Wing given Trump’s obsession of size

Witchfire@lemmy.world on 07 Jan 06:08 collapse

We’re heading to balkanization one way or the other. The US cannot survive in its current state. States can’t decide to fight or flight, it’s fight or die

Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works on 07 Jan 05:39 next collapse

California would literally pick up arms and start fighting against the US in a situation like this.

Mihies@programming.dev on 07 Jan 07:05 next collapse

Was it ever alive?

kmartburrito@lemmy.world on 08 Jan 03:39 collapse

This is an actual shit post. Come on man

freebee@sh.itjust.works on 07 Jan 12:27 next collapse

Exactly this. EU shouldn’t issue hollow statements, France/UK should just send nuclear armed vessels to the greenland area and declare they are an alliance with Denmark…

ArtVandelay@lemmy.world on 07 Jan 14:10 collapse

Yep, I’m an American but I’ll be damned if i let anybody know it. So fucking ashamed of this country right now

UnspecificGravity@piefed.social on 07 Jan 03:55 next collapse

If they were interested in defending Greenland they would base support troops there so any American action would require direct engagement with EU military personnel.

Earthman_Jim@lemmy.zip on 07 Jan 03:56 next collapse

I agree. But that would also trigger Trump into action, so they may be hoping diplomacy will still hold out, futile as that may be. Hopefully they’re building a joint task force in the meantime.

freebee@sh.itjust.works on 07 Jan 12:29 collapse

You think he still requires triggers?

Earthman_Jim@lemmy.zip on 07 Jan 12:41 collapse

Yeah. It seems part of why he pulled the trigger on Mudaro is that Mudaro was dancing in a mocking fashion while Trump was trying to put the pressure on. He overreacted and sent in delta force with no plan for what to do after they got him… The US is likely putting a bunch of options in front of him at all times as they would any president, but he just gets pissed off and picks an option while he’s angry and sundowning rather than considering what’s strategically best for literally anyone else, not to mention feeling desperate as his power diminishes into lame duck territory. It’s starting to seem more and more like he’s bored of the game and just picking the most cataclysmic options, because he’s demented, so the whole fucking world has to walk on egg shells around the shit-pants fucker. He is probably also being encouraged to pick bad options by bad people that he trusts like the fucking moron he is, like Putin, so he’s always teetering in a shitty direction.

frongt@lemmy.zip on 07 Jan 04:04 next collapse

There are a bunch of non-US units on the US base already.

bookmeat@lemmynsfw.com on 07 Jan 05:53 collapse

And they don’t remove the US units from Denmark, why?

shalafi@lemmy.world on 07 Jan 22:33 collapse

The US military would see that coming before they even left European ports.

UnspecificGravity@piefed.social on 07 Jan 22:35 collapse

Yeah, that is the entire fucking point of doing it.

dyathinkhesaurus@lemmy.world on 07 Jan 04:19 next collapse

Trump’s probably willing to make A Deal. Something like, “Give me your minerals or I will find a pretext to invade, and take them anyway”.

Or something like that.

Miller’s gonna spank himself into a coma at the thought.

Earthman_Jim@lemmy.zip on 07 Jan 04:24 collapse

They already could have negotiated a win win deal. This is as much about projecting strength as it is anything else. Trump’s (and Miller’s) power is diminishing. He’s in lame duck territory and he’s basically bored of the affordability crisis. The Epstein files are part of it, but more than anything it’s about how he’s losing his grip on power. He’s trying to spark a flame that’s run out of fuel by rubbing two sticks of dynamite together, and it was probably Putin’s idea.

nexguy@lemmy.world on 07 Jan 04:21 next collapse

I forsee the largest proliferation of nuclear weapons since the cold war.

Earthman_Jim@lemmy.zip on 07 Jan 04:25 collapse

I think that’s accurate.

scarabic@lemmy.world on 07 Jan 17:19 next collapse

Hmm I didn’t see a commitment to respond with force. Just a statement of what is “right,” as if Trump gives one shit about that. Fail.

Formfiller@lemmy.world on 07 Jan 17:26 next collapse

The Turd Reich will do as Shitler commands until they are stopped.

FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca on 07 Jan 18:47 collapse

The question is, will there be any action if Trump invades

ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one on 08 Jan 03:45 collapse

Spoiler alert, no.

The General Public is going to have find ways to get back at the US. Strikes at ports to prevent goods leaving for the US or US made goods coming in, boycotts, etc.
