Just out of curiosity, and excuse my ignorance about their culture, but why don’t her brothers, or other family members, take her husband out back and beat the shit out of him? Not the ideal solution, but when the law fails, there should be other remedies.

I’m guessing that sadly, the reason is her own family considers her the property of her husband to do with as he pleases.
