‘We won’ – Trump wins another tournament as he golfs with Finland President, Stubb, others (dailypost.ng)

I just played a round of Golf with Alexander Stubb, President of Finland. He is a very good player, and we won the Men’s Member-Guest Golf Tournament at Trump International Golf Club in Palm Beach County, with the Legendary Gary Player, Senator Lindsey Graham, and former Congressman and highly successful Television Host, Trey Gowdy.

“President Stubb and I look forward to strengthening the partnership between the United States and Finland, and that includes the purchase and development of a large number of badly needed Icebreakers for the U.S., delivering Peace and International Security for our Countries, and the World.

“President Stubb told me, in the most powerful of words, that the United States is STRONG, and BACK, AGAIN. I AGREE!” Trump wrote.

lol

If you watch any interviews with Stubb, where he is asked about Trump, he gives answers that would please Trump.

But if you watch him talk about anything else, you can tell Stubb is way too smart to consider Trump anything other than a bumbling fool. It’s incredible that he’s able to clue people in, while even in person the idiot himself doesn’t realize.

He’s trying to walk the line of pleasing Trumps ego, while getting real work done.

He’s literally just been saying stuff along the line “here’s what president Trump needs to do (insert sane policy), but he’s so smart he doesn’t need me telling him that”.

And apparently it works.

samus12345@lemm.ee on 31 Mar 05:20 collapse

Maybe he has experience dealing with narcissists.

gurnu@lemmy.world on 31 Mar 05:41 collapse

Definitely, Stubb being a narcissist himself. And a known liar. And a confessed school bully.

But that’s no surprise, his political party openly works with Finnish far-right populists.

samus12345@lemm.ee on 31 Mar 13:53 collapse

Ah, that explains a lot.

ShittyBeatlesFCPres@lemmy.world on 31 Mar 01:41 next collapse

I don’t know anything about the tournament but I saw a photo of all 4 people in his group holding the same sized trophy and at least one was a former PGA player. I would bet they played best ball and just took the pro’s shot every time. Maybe one of the other three got lucky and hit a putt or a par 3 green or something while every other “best ball” was the professional golfer’s shot.

tacosanonymous@lemm.ee on 31 Mar 03:42 collapse

It’s like playing with a child. They always “win.”

Oh…oh god he’s touching him. That is SO gross.

I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

I barf every time I see that lying slimy scumbag’s smile. And I’m not talking about Trump, though that fits him too.

CitizenKong@lemmy.world on 31 Mar 08:57 next collapse

It’s not even a smile, I don’t think he can genuinely smile. It’s a rictus grin devoid of real joy.

realitista@lemm.ee on 31 Mar 10:57 collapse

What’s your beef with Stubb?

gurnu@lemmy.world on 31 Mar 11:45 collapse

He’s a known liar, for one. Not exactly fit for presidency. “Sori siitä” isn’t enough when you willfully try to spin numbers to your favor, and I’m not talking about a small change: he tried to pass off 10% approval of nominee name securities as 90%, hoping the bill would pass allowing him and others to obfuscate ownership of financial securities for their own gain.

Greedy scumbag then, greedy scumbag now. Really doesn’t help when he kisses a fascist’s ass to protect his & his buddies investments instead of having a backbone.

E: Not to forget, his party works with the Finnish far right.

Denixen@feddit.nu on 31 Mar 06:09 next collapse

I hate the fact that you have butter yourself all up and rub yourself against Trump and proclaim that he is the greatest thing that ever happened to you in order to get him to not destroy everything for himself and others.

I love the fact that there are other people out there who are capable of doing that and don’t feel shame or discomfort while doing it. People like president Stubb, Nato secretary Rutte and others might just keep things from really turning bad. They are really good at pandering to Trump’s ego. I just hope they don’t end up completely selling themselves out, but I have confidence in that they know the limit.

I’m not a fan of Stubb, but so far he seems to be navigating the ROUGH political waters well enough. While I did not vote for him, I’m mostly pleasantly surprised by how he’s doing as a president and I trust he knows what he’s doing. I just hope I don’t have to be unpleasantly surprised later.

Also, he looks like a lizard.

Denixen@feddit.nu on 31 Mar 11:26 collapse

The way I think about is that people like Stubb are OUR assholes and they are useful to keep other’s assholes from hurting us.

We just have keep him and his likes faced outwards, not inwards 😅

Also, I think all politicians disappoint sooner or later, let’s just hope they do netto more good in the end :/

Finland on the wrong side of history again?

Pelicanen@sopuli.xyz on 31 Mar 07:00 next collapse

Again?

riodoro1@lemmy.world on 31 Mar 07:15 collapse

Finland participated in the Second World Warinitially in a defensive war against the Soviet Union, followed by another, this time offensive, war against the Soviet Union acting in concert with Nazi Germany and then finally fighting alongside the Allies against Germany.

boredtortoise@lemm.ee on 31 Mar 08:34 next collapse

That was disgraceful but tbh it seems that there were no better options

Lootboblin@lemmy.world on 31 Mar 09:13 collapse

Especially when the rest of the world didn’t help. Sweden sent some volunteer soldiers but that was basically it.

gurnu@lemmy.world on 31 Mar 13:20 collapse

This time we’re in NATO, though. We should be able to loudly and proudly say NO to someone who threatens our allies, instead of sniveling and cowering in front of them like Stubb does.

prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone on 31 Mar 12:32 collapse

So out of those three things, only one I would consider “the wrong side of history,” and it only really seems like that if you completely eliminate all context.

Are you really giving Finland shit for (rather successfully) defending their country against Soviet invasion?

bigboismith@lemmy.world on 31 Mar 09:20 next collapse

He’s the first European to convince Trump that Putin is unreliable and untrustworthy. Having to golf with the devil is sadly a part of realpolitik

riodoro1@lemmy.world on 31 Mar 10:02 next collapse

Oh sure, Trump will totally turn his back on russia now that Finland opened his eyes.

Dasus@lemmy.world on 31 Mar 13:31 collapse

Source?

Because I’m thinking Stubb is just a lickspittle.

bigboismith@lemmy.world on 31 Mar 14:22 collapse

Finnish media (can’t find a source in English, soz) claim a correlation with Stubbs visit and Trupms aggressive posturing to Putin

Stubb has through out his entire precidency been very pro Ukraine and being an experienced diplomat he should be very familiar with realpolitik and handling populists.

Dasus@lemmy.world on 31 Mar 14:25 collapse

Well one can only hope.

I don’t have much faith.

Thanks for the info.

realitista@lemm.ee on 31 Mar 10:56 collapse

Stubb seems like a levelheaded guy who knows what’s up. He has a whole channel of YouTube videos explaining his positions, and he’s mostly got the right idea about economics and geopolitics IMO. Yes, he’s kissing Trump’s ass, but I think he’s doing it to keep things on track in Europe as much as possible.

gurnu@lemmy.world on 31 Mar 11:47 collapse

Would you kiss Putin’s ass like Stubb kisses Trump’s? Fascists shouldn’t be given any leeway, that’s how they get in and keep power.

realitista@lemm.ee on 31 Mar 12:01 collapse

If I felt it was the best way to save my country from destruction, yes I would. I wouldn’t let him act against the best interests of my country, but I would kiss his ass if I thought it would help. From everything I’ve seen, Stubb is staunchly against Russia’s imperialist ambitions, so unless he’s really just blowing hot air about that, I doubt he will just go along with Trump’s current plans for Europe.

gurnu@lemmy.world on 31 Mar 20:04 collapse

If Stubb wasn’t going along with Trump’s plans he would be opposing him strongly instead of golfing and smiling with him. At the moment he comes off as a weakling with no spine, but that’s to be expected when his party works with the far right already.

Unlike in WW2 when USSR attacked Finland is in an alliance, now. How do you think their allies see Stubb’s actions after Trump has again and again threatened to attack them? All this ass kissing just to keep some ice breaker deal alive?

You never negotiate with fascists, there’s literally no point in that unless you’re ready to lick their boot.

Lootboblin@lemmy.world on 31 Mar 09:17 next collapse

”Back again” Yeah right. Trump also forgot to mention that he asked Stubb that can Putin be trusted and Stubb replied ”No!”

We’re honestly alarmingly authoritarian and most finns have issues questioning authority.

Iv known three Fins growing up, one was an old alcoholic man who worked on cars, normal guy. The second and third I knew as Teens, both went to Finland to serve in the military to keep their citizenship. One came back a neo Nazi tattoos and all, the other alt right. They didn’t go together

Dasus@lemmy.world on 31 Mar 16:46 collapse

Finland is pretty fking racist.

Using the n-word won’t get you into trouble as easily as calling someone out for using it. Has been my experience, at least.

Once an old lady I was driving home from the shops (as a taxi driver) genuinely got furious at me for just refusing to use the word (she was complaining about immigrant taxi drivers, ie my then colleagues). I didn’t even criticise her use directly, I just said I won’t use such language because I think it’s racist and dehumanising and she got mad and started yelling how “you call them what they are!”. Her husband was in the car as well. Just stayed silent.

So whole economically were pretty lefties especially compared to the US, politically less so.

I would love to move and live somewhere else for a few years but can’t afford it rn.

galanthus@lemmy.world on 31 Mar 15:56 collapse
