Compared to that time a protest was staged across an area the size of Europe? From small towns with a few dozen people to capital cities? And then again? And again?

These were all literally a quick Google search away. And you know what? Almost all of them are from last year, from a couple of cities out of those national protests, because our media is captured and it’s very difficult to find photos of the people scaring off ICE attempting to snatch people in broad daylight or the masses of abandoned cars in Chicago - some of them still running - from all the ICE raids. Or the community watch groups that have sprouted up to track where ICE agents are in the city. I couldn’t find a single picture of the protests from Boston then where there were more protesters in the city than the total population of the city. Most of what I saw was pro-ICE propaganda from news outlets about immigrants in NYC “cheering for ICE after capture of violent gang members” and other nonsense.

I have been able to talk some of my neighbors into at least saying that we’ll stand together should ICE comes. But getting them to cross state lines? Or even do a Rent/Mortgage strike is just too many steps too far for most of them. Especially when take into account that it’s days of travel, and you still need money for food and gas. Also our families needs food, shelter, and so on.

Surviving even at selfish costs, is unfortunately the Las Vegan way.

I at the very least thought a Rent/Mortgage strike would appeal to those selfish and apathetic, but somehow a strike that keeps your resources in your pocket is less liked than a General Strike that you have build resources for ahead of time. And arguing that we should encourage our homeless population to just take up homes that are sitting empty due to corps buying up houses for renting out was… well let’s just say I have to wait until people are more fed up before I can bring up that particular strategy again.

Hell getting people to go armed to protests has been met with hard no’s even after I point out how different police act when people are armed. And that all you need to do is look at the Bundy Ranch standoff to see how much different police treat those that are armed. (The police at the time came in unarmed, and without body armor to negotiate just so they wouldn’t set off the snipers).

So you want to know why we’re not using the unique way of protesting? Logistics, survival, and because most Americans prefer to be livestock for the Oligarchs than to actually be wolves fighting for our liberty, and will make every excuse to just wait for the slaughter.

Michigan in the 00’s had a gay libertarian host a legalization of Marijuana petition to get the issue on the ballot, at his Rainbow ranch in like battle creek or something. Police fucked with them and the Michigan Militia showed up to defend them. State police shot the owner of the ranch with a sniper for no good reason after a bit.

Only mention of them is that they provided unarmed security for the farm before the conflict arose but we’re not present for the actual standoff.

I think that if the United States we know are replaced, we will need the new Constitution to enshrine UBI. Part of that should be free fuel, food, and lodgings. I’ve been thinking the exact same things. A New Constitution is what is required. Our Founding Fathers always planned for such events, and we were expected to rewrite The Constitution as needed, including upto building completely from new.

I’m pretty sure the window is already closed. This is our second war with Iran in under a year. Both of which were started by the US/Israel; while we were actively negotiating with Iran. After the first war, we bragged about how the negotiation was a genius move by us to catch Iran with a surprise attack. The last time we had a major treaty with Iran, we unilaterally tore it up; and none of the other signatories stepped up to try and make Iran whole.

The 12 day war ended when we decided to end it. Iran agreed because no one likes getting bombed, and they assumed we had done all we had the stomach to do. However, this type of stop-and-go conflict massively favors the US. Iran’s strength lies in a sustained war of attrition. Deplete our air defense systems faster than we can resupply them. Disrupt the oil market long enough to cause global shortages. Draw us into a war against an insurgency. None of this is effective if they let us decide when the conflict pauses.

Their actions show this. Mining the straight of Hormuz and bombing oil fields are not the type of action you take for a conflict you don’t plan on lasting. Appoint the son of the leader we assisinated as your new leader. Those are decisions that will take months to reverse.

Also, I should mention that the current leader of Iran just had his family killed by us. And Iran was just in the middle of an internal political crisis that conveniently goes away in the face of an external one.

I don’t see how we get Iran to agree to end the war without us offering some major concessions.

When I was a teenager, I knew that killing 165 little girls is a bad thing to do. I understood that torture is a bad thing to do. Also, the average age of marines is about 25. Most of them are not teenagers.

I agree. Just know the news they see is 100% different than what the other half of the population sees. Everyone gets news from Facebook and influencers. It’s all according to who they watch. Also, those people sign up for years at a time. When they asked National Guard to be on streets to help ICE, many didn’t show up or were threatening not to. Things were not this bad when Biden was in office.

In any case, every one of those guys are probably going to die. It sounds like a suicide mission to rally citizens around the cause. Not sure if it will work.

did they not learn from the 80s when they were fighting the soviets with the mujahadeen, and then desert storm, and then the bush wars in the ME, oh and this all helps ISRAEl. currently this has been helping russia, since TRUMP lifted sanctions on them today.

all this was a way to HELP putin without directly lifting sanctions, he needed a “reason to do it” and that reason why iran war caused oil to increase in price.

I doubt 5000 marines are going to die in Iran. We might loss a few hundred… But that is going to be 5000 marines that are away from their families for a long time. That’s going to be billions of dollars spent supporting those Marines. Most importantly, it’s going to be tens, if not hundreds of thousand of people in Iran killed in an invasion.

Iraq and Afghanistan were costly, and lengthy failures for the US, and we had fucking plans for how to deal with them. There is no fucking way the clown cabal running the government right now had any kind of plan for a stable and independent Iran after this.

It’s a serious problem with anything marked “Live Coverage!” too. Every update changes the headline.

Which is why I always give OPs a chance to fix it. When I post one myself, I’m re-checking it every time I go in to read new comments.

The only thing really forbidden are headlines that are obviously editorialized.

They keep changing the headlines every like 15 minutes, it’s horrendous.

Unfortunately, a lot of other websites keep doing it . And not only for marked “live” updates. Sometimes they include the revisions, but nowadays they don’t even show that. Only way to handle this is (for OP) to check regularly the titles of your posted articles, especially when they are only a couple mins old . Its a bother.

Sounds like a problem automation can fix. Maybe a bot that periodically check the source material’s headline and revise the headline on Lemmy while keeping a history of changes. Might have it check the headline for a day so that it’s not checking the same post forever.

This is not going to be a full scale invasion. For that they need way more soldiers. 5000 is enough to take some islands, run some raids on the coast or do some special ops bs. If they send more we maybe see something bigger.

Kharg is the most likely. 90% of Irans oil exports go through that island and the US has just bombed it hard, while the units currently moved are specialized in taking islands. Other then that in the Strait of Hormuz Abu Musa, Greater and Lesser Tunbs are decent targets, as the UAE claims them and taking them would be useful to secure shipping a bit better.

If you wanted to secure the Strait somewhat Hormozgan province would have to be taken. With a population of nearly 2million, that is not going to happen with 5000 men. Maybe raids though.
