and ceasing all hostilities, including Israel’s operations in Lebanon

This is why I have doubts. Netanyahu needs his genocide to continue. He won’t stop killing unless the US stops supplying him and we know that won’t happen.

Israel will become isolated because they dragged the US into this war, weakening the country that they relied on.

SheepHerder@lemmy.world on 03 May 13:46 next collapse

That’s the primary job of Trump.

Europe needs to ban all Israeli from entering the EU and expel anyone with an Israeli passport.

NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io on 03 May 14:23 next collapse

No, the exact opposite: The EU should encourage the minority of Israelis unhappy with Netanyahu and co to resettle. An Israeli mini-exodus is already ongoing, and encouraging more of that would do more to hurt Israel than shutting Israelis out of most of the developed world. As a plus, an influx of liberal highly educated immigrants is always nice to have. That's of course different from tourists, which absolutely should be banned from entering the EU

Sounds sensible, why not both? (ban Israelis not seeking citizenship), said from afar, but in good spirit.

EvergreenGuru@lemmy.world on 03 May 21:22 collapse

Most Israelis have some form of Western citizenship. It’s just a slow, painful process of seeing their colony collapse and shipping them back home.

Then those people do nothing to fight change in their government to hold Bibi accountable

Better have real sanctions on the state of Israel itself

UnfortunateShort@lemmy.world on 03 May 14:16 next collapse

Eh, the current US government is as self centered (and also desparate) as it gets. They can just blame Israel for everything and force them to stop if they want to. And I think Iran has every intention to make them want to. What we’ve seen so far is only the beginning of inflation and shortages, it’s going to get way worse.

The Trump administration is practically unable to continue like this. They will lose the midterms and with them pretty much all initiative they have left. They have to make a deal. Either that or invasion. And invasion is ironically a political capitulation in this case, and incredibly costly in every sense as well

mrdown@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 03 May 16:37 next collapse

How about the world finally holding Israel accountable and gradually isolate it? Israel would never dare to do a genocide, if rhis happened decades ago

Fontasia@feddit.nl on 04 May 10:17 collapse

Ah but you forget, destroying this relationship for the sake of the end to this stupid conflict with many innocent deaths could give Trump a photo op, and what wouldn’t he do for a photo op and a week of bragging on Truth Social?

panthera_@lemmy.today on 03 May 14:37 collapse

Russia, China, and the EU should get together and negotiate a deal with Iran. They could offer a different perspective, and Iran trusts them more. If they negotiate a deal, it will put pressure on Trump to follow.
