Damn, I hope they’re able to contain and clean up the oil spill.

WordBox@lemmy.world on 15 Dec 19:13 collapse

They’re currently working to remove the spilled oil from the environment.

I am unable to find any news saying Russia is cleaning up the oil.

Do you have a source for that?

It’s a meme reference

That could be pretty tricky, look like the fronts fell off

That’s not very typical

It’s okay, they’re towing them outside the environment

In recent years, Russia has been accused of using a so-called ghost fleet of tankers, which are often poorly maintained and lack proper insurance, to move oil and circumvent sanctions - though Bockmann said it did not appear the tankers involved in Sunday’s incident were part of that fleet.

So the ghost fleet is even shittier

Putin doesn’t give a damn about the environment

Neither does the EU nor US

At least we pretend to in the EU, and build renewables.

New wind turbines are going up literally every day in some areas, and the worst offenders are actually member states politically aligned with Russia.

A case of history almost literally repeating itself: quoting from Wikipedia.

In early November 2007, a severe storm caused many ships to ground in the Strait of Kerch, between Ukraine and Russia. One of these was the Volganeft-139, a river oil tanker that lost over 4,000 tonnes of heavy oil.

(Also, in 2007 when Volganeft-139 broke in half at sea, another ship, the Volganeft-123, limped into port with a cracked hull.)

These hulls are shallow and aren’t designed for serious wave stress. Only an idiot sends them to sea during a storm.

Some folks over there have been totally unwilling to learn.
