I‘m not sure if I would call the turmoil in Nepal pro freedom or against corruption per se. From my understanding the government simply wanted to restrict access to social media for minors which quickly prompted the fake news machine on said social media platforms to kick into full gear. Anyone above 25 years is banned to participate in the uproar and the most powerful supporter of it is a Youtuber gone politician who advocates for greater Nepal politics, which would mean breaking international law and invade neighboring countries to settle there. You know, the shit Russia and Israel do.

Anger over corruption and nepotism fuel Nepal’s deadly protests over social media ban

The thing that most people, including this article get wrong is that this isn‘t really about social media. I mean yes they organized the protest over social media and yes they are upset about a proposal (that has since been withdrawn by the way). It‘s an aspect of it but they are upset about a range things including high unemployment rates among young adults which is why they continue to burn buildings. At this rate they‘re provoking a military coup.

Since when is messaging platforms like Signal “social media”?

I said the same thing like 8 years ago when I heard WhatsApp called “the largest social media platform in Africa.” Most definitions include any platform for groups of people to share basically anything beyond just text with groups of other people they know.

Whenever you read “age verification for social media” just translate it in your head to “deanonymize everyone on social media” and then you realize what the real motive is…
