Russia ready to 'fight to the last Ukrainian,' Putin says amid US peace drive (abcnews.go.com)

Vladimir Putin said a U.S. delegation is expected to arrive in Moscow in the first half of next week to discuss the latest American proposal to end the Kremlin’s war in Ukraine.

Speaking at a press conference during a visit to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on Thursday, Putin said no draft peace agreement had been agreed to in recent talks between the U.S. and Ukraine, only a list of issues to be discussed.

Putin also said it was “pointless” to sign any documents with Ukraine’s current leadership, alleging that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy lacked legitimacy to do so.

I think you mean USA is ready to do nothing until the last Ukrainian.
Fuck USA.

Our MIC stocks are through the roof

No actually they are not, for instance Lockheed Martin AFAIK the biggest weapons manufacturer in USA, is worth about the same as it was 5 years ago.
European military companies on the other hand have increased a lot in recent years, while American have declined.
USA alone and not to be trusted is not a good strategy for exporting weapons to former allies.
ALL NATO countries are seeking alternatives to American weapons now.

Contrary to McDonnell Douglas Rheinmetall has increased 700% in 3 years!!

Rheinmetall:

Lockheed Martin finance.yahoo.com/quote/LMT/

Edit:
Changed US example to Lockheed Martin.

DaMummy@lemmy.world on 27 Nov 21:15 collapse

Oh my, look at that Lockheed Martin stock jump in early 2022. Wonder what happened around that time. Do you have an example that disproves my point, instead of literally sourcing exactly what I said?

Buffalox@lemmy.world on 27 Nov 21:19 next collapse

You really are a special kind of dense, look how it immediately drops again so it now is at the exact same level it was 4 years ago.
Why are you spreading false info?

DaMummy@lemmy.world on 27 Nov 21:22 next collapse

I’m literally looking at the link you provided. Went from 330, then Russia fully invaded Ukraine in Feb of 2022, and stock price shot up, though now it’s back to a meager 450.

Buffalox@lemmy.world on 27 Nov 21:31 next collapse

No matter how you look at it, even 20% in 4-5 years is very far from through the roof, especially considering the USD also lost 10-15% value in that time.

Rheinmetall was about €80 5 years ago and is now €1500 that’s an increase of 1775%, Now THAT’S THROUGH THE ROOF.
And that is in a currency that has kept it’s value.

So you original statement remains decidedly false.

DaMummy@lemmy.world on 27 Nov 21:37 collapse

Yeah, that’s a fair argument. The “through the roof” was more of a rhetorical(theres probably a better word I can use to describe it). Either way, my whole point was that the main, if not only, reason for the Ukraine/Russia conflict was to raise the stock price of our MIC, like the original Desert Storm was, which was what the “brave Ukrainian fighters” was in reference to.

Buffalox@lemmy.world on 27 Nov 21:46 collapse

Oh wow, here I thought it was hopeless, and then we end up mostly agreeing anyway.
But I don’t think USA was the cause for Russia invading Ukraine. That I think is 100% on Putin and his idea of recreating the Empire of the former Soviet Union.

But I do agree that Biden kind of prevented Ukraine from winning as much as he prevented Ukraine from losing.
And Trump has definitely not done much to help Ukraine win either, both prolonging a war that could have been finished much quicker if we had helped Ukraine more.

And of course prolonging the war earns money for the MIC.

DaMummy@lemmy.world on 27 Nov 21:58 collapse

Don’t count your chickens yet. The fault only goes to Putin if you start history in 2022, not the Orange Revolution, either of the Maidan coup, the 14k Russian speaking civilians killed in Ukraine before ‘22, or the constant hit pieces on the Azov battalion in American media before’ 22, and the constant puff pieces of the Azov battalion in American media after '22.

Buffalox@lemmy.world on 27 Nov 22:00 collapse

No Putin invaded Ukraine way before that, I think it was 2008 in Donbas, and of course Crimea in 2014.

DaMummy@lemmy.world on 27 Nov 22:35 collapse

And CIA’s Orange Revolution started in 2004 if I’m not mistaken. As the famous saying goes “As somebody who has helped plan coups d’etat — not here, but, you know, other places — it takes a lot of work”.

jazzkoalapaws@ttrpg.network on 28 Nov 12:28 collapse

Wait a second, are you seriously this ignorant about stocks?

The US stopped sending military aid, so the price went down. When the US was sending aid, the price went up.

This is one of those instances where the internet crowd is wrong, again.

The Russian political magazine Sobesednik (Russian: Собеседник) alleged in 2018 that Putin had a sensory room installed in his private residence in the Novgorod Oblast.[544] The White House, as well as Western generals, politicians, and political analysts, have questioned Putin’s mental health after two years of isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic.[545][546][547]

What? That must be a lousy plastic surgeon then, or extremely poor material to work on, because he looks every bit 73 years old. I had a neighbor who was 71, and they look very similar in age, and my neighbor most definitely never saw a plastic surgeon.

There’s a huge difference between a hard life at the low end of the scale, to a privileged lifestyle like Putin has.
Also I don’t believe your images represent what you claim, and finally nationality has NOTHING to do with it.

Lots of privileged Russians are hardcore drunks as well.

HK65@sopuli.xyz on 28 Nov 15:33 collapse

Putin wasn’t always privileged IIRC. He was a taxi driver at one point, and I also wouldn’t call being a paper-pusher for the KGB a laid back no-stress lifestyle.

Not_mikey@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 28 Nov 04:14 next collapse

Probably not, the way Russia is right now it’s more likely some nationalist military commander fills that power vacuum then a sane democratic regime.

Rothe@piefed.social on 28 Nov 12:06 collapse

It wouldn’t necessarily take a sane democratic regime to end the war. A military dictator could just as well do that. It is not their project but very specifically Putin’s project, and a military dictator could use the military power expended in the war much better elsewhere.

fakeman_pretendname@feddit.uk on 28 Nov 08:05 next collapse

Depends how he dies.

If he gets Gaddafied by his own people, I imagine his successor might try to do things differently.

Rothe@piefed.social on 28 Nov 12:05 collapse

Very probable. At this point it is solely his personal project. The Russians just comply with him because, well, that is what Russians do.

Soup@lemmy.world on 28 Nov 21:09 collapse

I’m always astounded at the near universal human ability to act as though some demented fuckhead is some super wizard who forces them to do shit. Putin is just some guy, he’s largely useless and he wears stupid high-heels because he’s not even able to stand up to his own crap. Everyone could just start ignorning him tomorrow but they don’t.

Part of that problem is there are a lot of people who love to be thugs. They’re just broken losers who love taking orders that let them be mean to others and the world would be so much better with them as red paste on the sidewalk to be washed away by the rain.

More like “to the last ounce of gold in the central bank’s reserves” (they’re already selling it and it won’t last much beyond 6 months). After that, more soldiers can’t be hired, salaries can’t be paid and more Chinese tech can’t be bought, unless oil revenues recover (Ukraine will ensure they won’t).
