I think the difference is less that Islam is behind the curve and more that Islam is disproportionately practiced in theocratic nations. Religious echochambers that are largely monocultural get really fucked up really fast. Mormonism and all the fucked up shit in Utah. Hasidic Jewish communities, and israel. All the theocratic Muslim nations. Theres a reason the bible belt’s version of Christianity is more fucked-up than the version you more often find in the rest of the country.
