“TEL AVIV — Barely noticeable only a few months ago, opposition is growing about fresh Israeli operations in Gaza even among the country’s military reservists, some of whom have publicly called out the government for what they say is an immoral and politically motivated decision to continue the war.”

Massive respect to iraeli soldiers willing to defy their country. For many (certainly not all) criticising the war and senseless loss of life is an easy thing to just throw out on social media. It’s another thing entirely when it’s your whole country around you, and you’re a member of the military. There’s a reason we see people comit atrocities while “just following orders”- it’s by far the easier path when you’re handed down horrific orders.

I cannot imagine the consequences they might face for this kind of insubordination but it deserves recognition. The killing serves no meaningful purpose.

Israel has a history of ostracising those they deem “cowards” in society.

Just look into how they remembered the Holocaust and how they treated the survivors.

I both hope those brave soldiers stay in Israel to lead a change and hope they don’t let the state crush them with the gleeful support of the fascist civilian population.

Risking losing life or go to jail. Jail ia the better option

I’m not really convinced many IDF soldiers are facing significant risk of losing their life, at least in combat- my impression has been that they and Hamas aren’t exactly evenly matched in terms of resources 😅

I could absolutely be wrong, I’m not terribly well informed on the conflict and what combat casualties each side has suffered

Hamas still has enough explosive devices to cause trouble for the soldiers. As for arms, well it depends on how fast they can get it from other Iran proxy groups.

Hopefully the ones that cooperate will eventually face the Hague. We hung a lot of Nazis for just following orders. The IDF should get no special treatment.

Keep in mind they have mandatory conscription, so literally everyone in the country is an Israeli soldier.

I imagine this is like a dozen people, but good for them for having the guts to go against the rest of the country.

Over 12,000 current and former service members signed a series of letters since the collapse of the ceasefire in March calling on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government to end the war and declaring they will refuse to serve if it continues
