Trump Calls Zelensky a ‘Dictator’ as Feud Escalates Over Ukraine Peace Talks (www.nytimes.com)

The simmering feud between President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine and President Trump escalated on Wednesday when Mr. Trump mocked his counterpart in a post filled with falsehoods, calling him a “dictator without elections.”

His comments came hours after Mr. Zelensky said the American leader had been “caught in a web of disinformation” from Russia over the war in Ukraine.

The pointed exchange was set off by a meeting of American and Russian officials to open talks on ending the war in Ukraine that excluded the Ukrainian government. After that meeting in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, Mr. Trump suggested that Ukraine had started the war, a comment that brought a strong rebuttal from Mr. Zelensky on Wednesday morning.

the party of projection at it again. you can be sure if theyre claiming others are doing it, they are themselves guilty of it. waste? fraud? dictator-like behavior? all things that orange piece of shit is actually pursuing... but only if you judge him by his actions and words.

As of today, we’re over the “dictator-like” boundary and squarely into “dictator” for Trump’s behaviour:

I don’t understand why USDOT approval is required to impose tolls in the first place. If it were the interstate, sure, but it looks like this is just downtown Manhattan.

Ah, okay, I think that this is probably it. Apparently tolls require federal approval if there’s federal funding involved.

www.fhwa.dot.gov/ipd/…/section_129_faqs.aspx

May tolling be allowed under 23 U.S.C. 129 if the activity that authorizes tolling is funded without Federal assistance?

Yes. A State may elect to fund a project qualified to be tolled under 23 U.S.C. 129 with or without Federal-aid assistance, and the absence of Federal-aid does not restrict the State’s eligibility to use 129(a) authorities to toll a Federal-aid highway or bridge owned by the State.

And it sounds from the article like the project is getting federal funding:

Observers had speculated that he would try to withdraw federal approval for the plan or threaten to withhold federal funding.

I mean, who was it that recently said that he alone (and, well, his AG, too, maybe) is the sole authority in interpreting law? It sure as hell wasn’t Zelensky…

Edit: Accidentally ate a word.

Na you can tell he’s not a dictator because Trump isn’t trying to lick his boots.

Trump could actually have me eat broccoli for the first time in my life just saying he does not like them

TheTechnician27@lemmy.world on 19 Feb 23:16 next collapse

Would you like somebody to introduce you to broccoli? There’s a lot of ways to enjoy it, and it’s much more than just a boring “health food” (while simultaneously providing the benefits of a boring “health food”).

If you cook it with an adequate amount of seasoning, it tastes quite good.

Try throwing a hamburger into a pan full of water, cooking it with no salt or anything and see how it tastes like.

If the US swaps sides and supports Russia do you think the dems will finally act like an opposition party or keep getting angry about us asking them to?

blakenong@lemmings.world on 19 Feb 22:04 next collapse

They’re still talking about Gaza and Biden, I doubt the dem voters are even going to acknowledge Ukraine at this point. People are very easy to distract.

I honestly don’t have any faith in the established party leadership whatsoever. We’ll see how Ken Martin does - I hope he’ll be less feckless than Jeffries and Pelosi and Schumer and Biden and the rest of the “party nobility”, but my expectations are frankly at rock bottom these days. Anything more effective than complete capitulation would pleasantly surprise me.

SinningStromgald@lemmy.world on 19 Feb 23:36 collapse

Martin won’t be any better he’s just doing and saying all the things Democrats do after a loss. Once they get back a majority it will all come to nothing. At best they may try and impeach Trump again. Which will likely come to nothing, assuming it gets past the house, even after the 2026 elections since they are unlikely to take the Senate.

Now, if somone like AOC, or even Sanders, was leading the DNC I would have some hope. I don’t even have hope we’ll have a decent presidential canidate in 2028. This assumes of course there is an election in 2026 and/or 2028.

gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works on 19 Feb 23:39 next collapse

I’m not even convinced we’re going to have an election that fucking means anything in ‘26 or ‘28, to be perfectly blunt.
