What would it take for Cuba to break the lease agreement and tell the US to gtfo?
They don’t accept the payment that the U.S. provides. I don’t think they can force the U.S. off the island. I’m sure they would have by now if they could.
They’ve only cashed a single check for it iirc and that was by mistake. Castro famously would show off his stack of checks from the American government.
Cuba and the US must mutually decide to end the lease. That’s not happening.
Military superiority.
It’s amazing how many people ignore the reality of “bigger army diplomacy”.
One of them has their hand on the water and power controls. If it’s the right one, then the problem solves itself.
Isn’t Guantanamo Bay specifically there as a gray area prison that doesn’t have to abide by US laws and guidelines?
And then the US said to Germany, “We too, can do Auschwitz.”
