Not many would lament the passing of the ayatollah regime. But, interesting question, who should replace them, especially during a time of upheaval?

I’m sure there are very qualified people around, as Iran is a highly educated and cultured society. But would they be the ones to grab power? Or will we see an Iraq-like civil war? Wiping out the old regime is easy, maintaining stability a lot less.

or a new green revolution that works out even better than whats happening in syria. exciting times.

That’s my biggest problem with people who call for revolution, violent or otherwise, no matter the locale. There’s no guarantee whoever grabs power after is going to be any better. Any revolution needs plans for a transition of power before toppling a regime, or it just leads to a power vacuum that any number of opportunists are willing and able to exploit. Most of which have no better motives than those of the toppled regime.

There is no situation where a transition of power can be planned to the extent you wish, even when other governments plan it with the best of intentions. It will always carry risk. The risk that things could be worse shouldn’t stop the people from trying when an illegitimate gov is not operating in the people’s best interest.

Right, but they should have some plan in mind instead of just hoping that the next group of people who take power will be kinder to them. With no plan at all it’s pretty much guaranteed that a nefarious party will take over.

A plan may not go perfectly, but it’s at least a plan, and not just hoping that everything turns out all right with no effort put towards it.

Just look at how much better Afghanistan is after we toppled the Taliban.
