As we’ve seen, they don’t work at all if countries like India and China are still willing to trade with them via backdoor channels.
What we’ve seen is the exact opposite. The state is running huge deficits, burning through its war chest, and the economy is very hot right now.
Indeed so. But who’s loaning them money? Who’s buying their oil? It’s not no one.
Well burning through their savings, and printing money like Weimar means they do absolutely not sell enough oil. So they do sell but largely not enough.
Even less is better ofc.
Of course, less is better. I’m just saying that for sanctions to have the intended effect, everyone needs to be on board with punishing them.

Here’s my take.
This is a set up. Putin now has to say “ok, ok, we’ll make a deal!”
Then he says he’ll end the operation in Ukraine but only if they retain taken territory.
Then Trump gets to say that’s reasonable, and Zelenskyy becomes the disagreeable one for saying no.
Trump then turns on Zelenskyy.
I give it 3 months before this chain of events becomes reality.
Did Zelensky promise Trump hotels in Ukraine or something during his meeting a month ago? Like a Mar-a-Lago in Crimea?
Probably. And honestly, gross though the idea is, it would have been wise. He has a country to save.
Turning Crimea into Europe’s Florida would be worth returning it and protecting it. I just wish I was a fly on the wall to see what the heck he did to sway the orange one.
Don't do that to Crimea. Nobody deserves that.
