Aka "21st century russky mir’.

Rinox@feddit.it on 11 Dec 2023 08:27 collapse

I mean, this is the same country who walled off an entire city to stop people from leaving. This is not really surprising

avater@lemmy.world on 11 Dec 2023 09:02 collapse

oh its not surprising for me, it’s just a constant reminder how fucked up Russia is

elbarto777@lemmy.world on 11 Dec 2023 11:38 collapse

Would you say russia is getting to the same level as north korea?

avater@lemmy.world on 11 Dec 2023 11:45 collapse

it clearly has set it’s sail in this direction, maybe flavoured with a little shot of nazi germany

Algaroth@lemmy.world on 11 Dec 2023 17:03 collapse

Or at least some classic Stalinism. The good ol with us or against us rhetoric is the foundation of authoritarianism.

There must have been a lot of high-level defections so far to have to resort to this

There were:

Hunh. The Russian government started a thing a few months back, where they no longer had to deliver your drafted-into-the-army papers in person, they could do it by email. The interesting thing was that the email was considered to be delivered the moment it was sent, regardless of whether anyone actually read it or not - or whether the recipient even knew the email account existed. It'll be interesting to see if the passport restriction is handled the same way.

Neato@kbin.social on 11 Dec 2023 15:52 collapse

Lol. I wonder how many of those emails went straight into the spam folder.

Chainweasel@lemmy.world on 11 Dec 2023 10:41 next collapse

5 days to use it or lose it.
I wonder how many will see this as the final push to flee the county now that they’ve been put into a “now or never” situation.

Sanyanov@lemmy.world on 11 Dec 2023 16:50 collapse

That relates to those who’ve already been banned from travel. They won’t be let out

hot_scarcity@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 11 Dec 2023 11:37 next collapse

So they have 5 days to find a way out. That’s all I’m reading from this

Sanyanov@lemmy.world on 11 Dec 2023 16:50 collapse

They’re already trapped inside the country.

_edge@discuss.tchncs.de on 11 Dec 2023 11:49 next collapse

So many Russians on permanent vacation / early retirement / digital nomand lives in five days.

GBU_28@lemm.ee on 11 Dec 2023 13:05 collapse

Already are. Tons in Thailand and similar

MushuChupacabra@lemmy.world on 11 Dec 2023 15:42 collapse

You’re banned from travel. Here’s your uniform and gun, now travel to Ukraine and have drones drop bombs on you.
