In a 10-minute televised address Sánchez reflected on the wars in Ukraine and Gaza as well as the Iraq War more than 20 years ago and said “the government’s position can be summed up in four words: No to war”.
Trump threatened to impose a full trade embargo on Spain in response to Madrid’s refusal to allow the US to use the jointly run bases at Morón and Rotafor for strikes on Iran.
“Spain has been terrible,” Trump said during a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Tuesday.

I looked at that article and it quotes Trump as saying:
Surely this is a reason why Europe should unite in order to protect its interests. Imagine if the EU were to deny the Americans permission to use any EU air base for strikes on Iran. Would Trump then say “we’re going to cut off all trade with the EU”? It would be much more costly for the US economy if they were to cut off trade with the entire EU, rather than just one EU country.
This! Germany and france should stand by with spain instead of trying to not displease trump. if this does not happen, the whole vision of the EU is questionable. i dont understand why spain is the only country to take a clear stance against a unsanctioned war. you like to decide things without us? ok… then handle it without our ressources.
Merz is actually busy playing good poodle with Mister Trump. If you’re exoecting any bit of morale ethics or decent human behaviour from the 2m of useless vertical growth that is our chancellor, you’re hopelessly optimistic.
The US cannot just cut off trade with one EU country. If he tries to do this then EU policy is to act as one, the mechanisms for this are already in place. This is just more pointless bluster from the orange pedi.
That’s interesting given that Spain has a trade deficit with the US: 27 billion dollars worth of imports and 20 billion dollars worth of exports
Maybe its worth more to some having morals than goods to trade. Interesting indeed, but I’m sure the country/people would stand behind that decision.
Someone with a spine.
They did him dirty with that translation. Presumably “no a la guerra” originally.
I was wondering about that!
I just assumed we were supposed to supply our own expletive at the beginning.
Fuck no to war.
The Guardian’s report has an excerpt from his speech, and those are the words he used.
