BERLIN (Reuters) - Support for the Alternative for Germany (AfD) dropped slightly in two polls published on Tuesday after 10 days of nationwide protests against the far-right party, although it remained firmly in second place.

Support for the AfD dropped 2 percentage points to 20% in a Forsa poll, the lowest level in four months. The party remained behind the opposition conservatives on 31% but still well ahead of all the three parties in Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s centre-left coalition, who together were polling 32%.

The AfD dropped 1.5 percentage points on the week to 21.5% in the poll by the German Institute for New Social Answers (INSA), behind the conservatives on 30.5% and the ruling coalition on 31%.

“The demonstrations against the AfD are supported by 37% of Germans and they are showing an impact,” INSA chief Hermann Binkert said.

Similar thoughts here. Taking into consideration that:

The AfD dropped 1.5 percentage points on the week to 21.5% in the poll

Mostly, I feel terrified that more that 1 in 5 German supports AfD. I cannot celebrate a 1,5% drop.

That has already been established over an hour ago by 2 other comments, out of 7 in total (as of now). Not too sure how mentioning this a 3rd time helps this conversation?

Huh? The headline says “eases” not “erased”.

To people that are saying the protests are all words and no action. This is what the action accomplishes. There’s a subset of people that only mildly supported AfD or thought that their rheteoric wouldn’t affect them but publicizing the secretive meeting and master-plan gets at least a few people to realize what’s going on.

Sure there will still be a bunch of people that don’t realize they’re being had for suckers. It will only be too late when the supporters realize “they aren’t hurting who they needing to be hurting”.

10 % of voters wavering is not a lot though.

CanadaPlus@futurology.today on 24 Jan 2024 17:35 collapse

That’s double-digit. How many would qualify as a lot?

Because 20 of 22 % of voters not caring is much more.

Misleading title:

It looks like the numbers of polls from INSA in 2024 were 7 and the percentage number for AfD varied from 18 to 23.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opinion_polling_for_the_next_German_federal_election#2024

Since the 18% was on the 11th-12th of January, why celebrate that after so many mass protests this number is at 21,5%?

That particular poll seems to be an outlier with BSW getting 14% and most other parties scoring lower than on other recent polls.

The fact that it's the lowest one doesn't make it an outlier. It's just the first numeric value in a range going from 18 to 23.

The lights turn on, and the cockroaches scatter. Look at that.

I actually respect people who are racists and open about it, in a way. They’re very wrong, and obviously resistant to education on why, but at least they’re being true to what they think is right. A lot of these people have to know they’re rotten on some level.

The problem is is that people who vote AfD wont take any protests seriously. They know that their beliefs are toxic. They dont care.

It blows my mind that fascism is on the rise in fucking 21th century. IN WESTERN DEMOCRATIC COUNTRIES.

Linkerbaan@lemmy.world on 25 Jan 2024 10:29 next collapse

Actual Nazism being on the rise in Germany is pretty insane. You would think that the education system would have prevented these ideas from rising again, but apparently all you need is the economy taking a downturn and everything that they learned goes out of the window to blame minorities for their problems…

Ah yes, the biggest Arab aspiration is to emigrate to the west to become a serial rapist. Thanks for the enlightenment. Don’t forget to also say they steal all the jobs and simultaneously abuse the welfare system.

You think it might have something to do with poor people being more present in crime statistics? No that can’t be it has te be related to race and/or religoin. Hey wait we did this 75 years ago! Get your Siegs ready boys

Why would anyone want to make their own country significantly worse by taking them in?

They show up because we screwed over their countries. If you don’t want them to show up you should have considered our governments not going on an imperialist rampage and overthrowing every African and Middle-Eastern government that doesn’t give us their natural resources.

Furthermore Western birth rates are so low that without immigration country couldn’t actually run. Most of the lower paying physical labor IE garbage collection, airport luggage, doing field work on farms, etc are done by these people.

Lastly it’s not actually that many refugees coming into Europe. Most of the refugees end up in Turkey. By far the largest amount of refugees Europe received was the recent Ukranians. Arabs are certainly not on the streets mass raping women. This is mostly just propaganda pushed by Russia on facebook:

Who are we? I’m certainly not complisit in it.

Most European countries are responsible for Africa being a mess, and America and England screwed up the middle east and surroundings.

Germany is one of the most prominent Zionist countries. Actively supporting Netanyahu in his genocide to screw up the middle east and create another giant Palestinian refugee crisis as we speak.

The Palestinians and Lebanese wouldn’t have to seek refugee if countries like Germany weren’t helping to screw up theirs. I guess if you wanna be racist then they can also just say “white people just can’t be helped from Genociding little children and thinking they are the Ubermensch it’s in their DNA”?

But it’s not of course. I recommend you read up about some Chinese propaganda about Vietnamese people. Two entirely different races that are basically convinced of the same thing you are. Saying that Vietnamese people are somehow all lazy brown rapists.

Maybe it would be beneficial, if the majority actually integrated, and got jobs. And if they didn’t actively commit crime, which drains police resources, as well as causing divison and instability. A lot of low-skilled labour intensive jobs could also be automated.

Many of them do have jobs and the ones that don’t are usually actively blocked by the government from getting a job. Because they have to wait years and years for their application to get processed and somehow governments don’t want to use this labor but rather have it sit around waiting.

What the article fails to mention is the new party BSW, which is now in the polls for the first time and drew some % away from other parties, including the AfD. That alone is enough to explain the slight change in AfD support.

BSW combines nationalist views on immigration with socialist economic principles, and a foreign policy based on sucking Putin’s dick.
