Seriously though, why would anyone think this was a good idea in the first place? First off, I didn’t even know the “Second Lady” really did anything like this kind of stuff at all, and secondly, why would locals care about someone who is essential a random foreigner coming to pave the way for chaos?
She’s not Princess Diana. Five years ago, her husband was a certified nobody and now they want to drum up flowers and cheers from locals in another country for the wife of someone who is a half-step from being just some random NPC?

In fairness, the Second Lady has traditionally taken on various projects, although usually of a kids/education/health/humanitarian angle. Nancy Reagan was particularly well known for her various causes. Michelle Obama was advocating child literacy and healthy lifestyle I believe.
Not defending her at all, but I think it’s important to keep our facts and histories straight.

This would have been the real power play. Greenland says they will roll out the red carpet and welcoming party of locals. On arrival, the locals are bears and the carpet isn’t red. Yet.

IMO this is way better. Being denied would have given them a great opportunity to complain about “the Danish government suppressing the will of the Greenlandic people to join the US”. The fact that they can come but noone there likes them is so much more devastating for their narrative.

I will repeat it: Greenlanders are very based.
If you are ever in Denmark, spend an hour to visit the Greenland museum, a huge raised middle finger of an exposition reminding everyone of Danish colonialism, placed right in the middle of Copenhagen.
They are not well treated by the Danes either, who only recently recognized them the right for translators in the Danish parliament.
Are they getting DOGE to look into whether the tickets were non-refundable?

I think it would have been better for one household to welcome them warmly, say they were proud to have them in their home.

Diplomatic immunity is in effect only for people invited to the country as diplomats. The ambassador of USA to Finland does not have immunity when he travels to Sweden.
What I wonder: what are the laws regarding a person coming to Greenland in order to work there as a worker of a foreign company/organization? Did Vance enter Greenland as a tourist? Since he was working from Greenland’s soil without a work visa, was he an illegal immigrant?

I mean, it is a free world, and - unlike Trumpster - they do no discriminate. However, they are not required to treat them differently from any other person in the world, so they didn’t.
No visas are needed between Europe and USA. EU will very soon begin an ESTA-like scheme, but that’s not in effect yet. And, since Greenland is not in EU, probably it won’t come into effect either.
Vance could therefore simply appear at the border and the one individual border guard is then alone responsible for deciding whether to allow or refuse entry for USA’s vice president.
Greenland is not part of Europe, EU or the Schengen region. No visa or esta is required for entry.
Greenland is an autonomous territory in the Kingdom of Denmark, Danish Krone is used and Danish is spoken by many, although Greenlandic is more popular.
