The only comment I could think to post, too.

This is b-movie villain type shit.

They put 41 people - who didn’t have anything to do with it - in the dirt and injured another 40 just to dig back up the bone remnants of one long-dead guy. And they didn’t even manage that much in the end, apparently. That’s just… so beyond the pale and the boundaries of all reason and decency.

Those people attacked them. The interesting thing is how outmatched the attackers were despite outnumbering a group that wasn’t there with the intent of fighting.

TIL when military pops up in a foreign country uninvited and conducts multiple airstrikes at the same time, it’s not at all with an intent to fight.

I admit that the articles I’ve read are not entirely clear about the order in which things happened, but my understanding is that the Israelis were trying to sneak in and dig up the grave without being noticed, they were noticed and attacked, and they called in air support. They were clearly prepared to fight, but their mission would not have involved any fighting had it gone according to plan.

davepleasebehave@lemmy.world on 08 Mar 10:14 collapse

you can bet that they were highly trained killers and not random grave diggers. This wasn’t Armageddon with Bruce Willis. they would have been disguised and heavily armed and supported.

Ready for a fight. Potentially gagging for a fight.

And the civilians were essentially ambushed.

Sorry, by “it”, I was referring to whatever originally happened to the guy they were trying to dig up. I could have been more clear about that.

The focus of the operation in Nabi Chit was recovering the remains of an Israeli military airman who went missing in Lebanon 40 years ago.

The focus of the operation was to do some killing, and they don’t care who.

The genocidal, child trafficking, terrorist state of Israel attacking everyone

Witnesses told the BBC that the Israeli soldiers had arrived disguised in Lebanese military fatigues and used ambulances with signs of Hezbollah’s Islamic Health Organization. The Lebanese army chief later confirmed this to local media

Add yet another instance of perfidy to the list of war crimes.
