We’ll just have to see what Magyar thinks about it then.

ViatorOmnium@piefed.social on 26 Jun 05:51 next collapse

While he's not as extreme as Órban, Magyar is also against helping Ukraine defend itself, and he's being at least ambivalent about letting join the EU and NATO after the war.

We might have a Hungary problem, not a Fidesz problem.

Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world on 26 Jun 08:20 next collapse

Seems like we usually do. Still the sick man of Europe, I guess

AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space on 26 Jun 10:20 next collapse

When faced with the choice of good relations with the EU (including funding and cooperation) and standing with Putin, Magyar may, unlike Orban, make the pragmatic choice.

HK65@sopuli.xyz on 26 Jun 11:38 collapse

When you have someone blow the double of the whole healthcare budget on Ukraine fearmongering, who has been supported by a practically unlimited EU budget, it becomes hard to campaign on Ukraine.

Magyar pledged to have a referendum on Ukraine joining, when the question actually comes up. I don’t know what else he can do right now, considering the situation.

Most Hungarians support the unconditional early joining of Ukraine BTW, and a lot more support it if conditions are kept.

real_squids@sopuli.xyz on 26 Jun 06:08 collapse

I thought you were talking about Ukraine’s head of UAV forces for a second lol

Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world on 26 Jun 07:16 collapse

I’m more of a fan of that one than the Turkish one. Hope it doesn’t come to that!

LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net on 26 Jun 04:49 next collapse

Won’t someone rid us of this turbulent shitstain?

partial_accumen@lemmy.world on 26 Jun 04:58 next collapse

I’d trade Ukraine getting NATO membership if it means Hungary loses it.

msprout@lemmy.world on 26 Jun 05:29 next collapse

Can’t we just combine Austria and Hungary again? Everybody loved that.

Well, except Bosnian Serbs I guess.

Vikthor@lemmy.world on 26 Jun 07:59 collapse

Austria isn’t as blatant as Hungary but their policy is also pretty russia-friendly.

And there is a reason A-H collapsed and it wasn’t just because of WW1 and Bosnian Serbs. Poles, Czechs, Slovaks, Romanians or basically anybody who wasn’t German or Hungarian hated the monarchy in the end(With the possible exception of the Croats, who reached some kind of agreement with Hungarians right before the collapse).

phutatorius@lemmy.zip on 26 Jun 09:51 collapse

Yeah, at least we know that Ukrainians aren’t fifth columnists.

Honytawk@feddit.nl on 26 Jun 12:08 collapse

Yeah, with their filthy newspapers.

faizalr@fedia.io on 26 Jun 05:01 next collapse

Ukraine is fishy especially their presiden.

SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world on 26 Jun 05:53 next collapse

I agree when invaders break into my house I cook them dinner and ask if they want to fuck my wife too.

Coolbeanschilly@lemmy.ca on 26 Jun 05:58 next collapse

Who said you could stop sucking Putin’s dick? BACK TO WORK!

phutatorius@lemmy.zip on 26 Jun 09:53 collapse

A journalist should ask him if Trump’s asshole tastes like Putin’s dick.

FelixCress@lemmy.world on 26 Jun 06:05 next collapse

Zdrastvuytie Sasha, one comment and five rubels in your pocket.

phutatorius@lemmy.zip on 26 Jun 09:52 next collapse

Fish rots from the head first.

Honytawk@feddit.nl on 26 Jun 12:11 collapse

Sometimes you have to be that when a completely separate nation invades your sovereign nation illegally.

They are at least not as fishy as putin, damn that man stinks.

ThePowerOfGeek@lemmy.world on 26 Jun 05:02 next collapse

Of course he will keep it that way. He won’t have the time to continue sucking off Putin if he has to think about NATO membership. Hungary needs to flush that miserable turd down the political toilet once and for all.

msprout@lemmy.world on 26 Jun 05:28 next collapse

Homie looks like the heel of a foot. Putin sure knows how to pick the pretty ones.

phutatorius@lemmy.zip on 26 Jun 09:51 collapse

Toady looks like toad.

MolecularCactus1324@lemmy.world on 26 Jun 05:31 next collapse

Evict Hungary from the EU and NATO

FelixCress@lemmy.world on 26 Jun 06:04 next collapse

This.

ByteJunk@lemmy.world on 26 Jun 07:19 collapse

This just hands over an EU country to the Russian and Chinese influences, which is why Hungary is where it’s at in the first place.

This is the kind of thing that needs covert counter-ops: undermine and question orban at every online forum, constantly make Putin look bad, push against every single government policy, etc.

So basically what they’re doing to every other western nation.

FelixCress@lemmy.world on 26 Jun 07:46 next collapse

This just hands over an EU country to the Russian and Chinese influences

Far too late for that. Orban is a Russian shill and should be treated accordingly.

Few years outside of the EU, with closed borders and no new funds may cause Hungarians to proudly follow Romanian way with Orban ending like Caucescu.

ByteJunk@lemmy.world on 26 Jun 19:15 collapse

Why are you crossing out China?

Did you miss the massive investments China is doing there, to buy influence?

Here’s one: businessinsider.com/satellite-photos-show-byds-ma…

FelixCress@lemmy.world on 26 Jun 19:16 collapse

Why are you crossing out China?

Because Orban is Putin’s puppet, irrespectively of any Chinese investment.

rottingleaf@lemmy.world on 26 Jun 11:02 next collapse

So basically what they’re doing to every other western nation.

You mean western nations’ government policies are all perfect and people pushing against them are Russian shills? And making their politicians look bad?

Maybe those governments and politicians are Russia-infiltrated, and these complaints are resistance.

FishFace@lemmy.world on 26 Jun 16:01 next collapse

You say “maybe” like it’s some unknowable quantity, but we can see what is going on in Hungary and that it’s getting increasingly authoritarian, and we can see Russian attempts to influence western democracies through bot farms and the like. It’s not unknowable; the evidence is there.

ByteJunk@lemmy.world on 26 Jun 19:07 collapse

This is the sort of stupidification of issues that we see from bot farms: cherry pick one point, then blow it out of proportion so that there’s no more nuance, no more gray, no room for middle ground.

Everything becomes black and white, polarised, simple: with us or against us.

Fucking moron.

Honytawk@feddit.nl on 26 Jun 12:07 collapse

Lose one, gain multiple.

It isn’t as big an issue as you make it out to be.

Green_Mouse@piefed.social on 26 Jun 08:07 next collapse

I think if it comes to that, the Hungarian people will be VERY pissed off.

XenGi@feddit.org on 26 Jun 09:16 next collapse

Should have voted differently then.

Green_Mouse@piefed.social on 26 Jun 12:02 collapse

Yup

ArchmageAzor@lemmy.world on 26 Jun 09:40 next collapse

That’s their problem.

makyo@lemmy.world on 26 Jun 10:10 collapse

Honestly they should already be VERY pissed off

Bravo@eviltoast.org on 26 Jun 12:31 collapse

Orbán does just enough for farmers to keep them voting for him. Keeping Ukraine out of the EU is part of that - if Ukraine were a member, Hungarian wheat prices would plummet.

Green_Mouse@piefed.social on 26 Jun 12:46 collapse

It's so selfish and low...

rottingleaf@lemmy.world on 26 Jun 11:00 collapse

I don’t think there’s any need to evict it to pressure it to vote the right way.

So Hungary blocking things is a collective performance.

Or maybe not, then the leverage they gain from veto is more than the pressure put at them. In such case that leverage is apparently damn big and they are a small country.

Gudl@feddit.org on 26 Jun 07:04 next collapse

I hate this ugly fuck

Green_Mouse@piefed.social on 26 Jun 08:06 next collapse

Damn, I hate this man so much.

Mog_fanatic@lemmy.world on 26 Jun 11:47 collapse

“There’s nobody that’s better, smarter or a better leader than Viktor Orbán. He’s fantastic. He’s a noncontroversial figure because he said, ‘This is the way it’s going to be,’ and that’s the end of it, right? He’s the boss and … he’s a great leader, fantastic leader. In Europe and around the world, they respect him.”

Donald Trump, predictably

phutatorius@lemmy.zip on 26 Jun 09:49 next collapse

I’ll celebrate the day when the people of Hungary do the right thing.

Bravo@eviltoast.org on 26 Jun 12:15 next collapse

What makes you think they will?

Akasazh@feddit.nl on 26 Jun 14:27 collapse

I am sure many of them want to.

Dicska@lemmy.world on 26 Jun 15:48 collapse

Around May next year. Might not be the right thing we’re both thinking of, but at least there will be elections in 2026.

meeeeetch@lemmy.world on 26 Jun 10:12 next collapse

Do we need to do Trianon again?

Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world on 26 Jun 13:13 collapse

Do a Quaternon. No part of Hungary stays independent.

AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space on 26 Jun 10:18 next collapse

Hungary should follow Slovakia’s proposal and leave NATO.

Dicska@lemmy.world on 26 Jun 15:48 collapse

If the next year’s elections fail and Orbán stays in power then we can start calling it Western Belarus from then on.

Allemaniac@lemmy.world on 26 Jun 12:59 next collapse

good thing our glorious german arms manufacturer Rheinmetall (creators of the Leopard tanks) built the world’s most high-tech tank factory in fucking Hungary of all places. Putin will soon sport some sleak looking new MBT’s in Ukraine thanks to us greedy Germans :)
