The frigate was dispatched by the Minster of Defense Crosetto who is in the same right wing party as Meloni, so it’s very unlikely that they would risk escalation. The cynic in me believes it’s actually to save skin for Israel since they know Israel can’t help themselves from blowing up civilians, and the ship would just help them from getting killed.
The Spanish one, from the declarations seems to be more ready to engage in actual defense, and the PM seems to be more more critical of the Israeli attacks. Ideally, they should be shooting down any drones coming nearby.
