while American flown to Nebraska is asymptomatic, say officials

Ah fuck…

Asymptomatic carriers is literally worst case scenario. That’s what Typhoid Mary was, and why she caused so many deaths.

Some dumbass American off a cheap cruise who personally doesn’t feel consequences but will remain infectious for a long time will just run around like an idiot infecting everyone.

It sounds fucked up, but I hope it’s only asymptomatic due to early stages.

At least going Nebraska is like one large social distancing experience.

KC_Royalz@lemmy.world on 11 May 13:46 collapse

I’m in Nebraska. And let me tell you, everyone during COVID wore masks and practiced social distancing.

Ya right as if

I think the big positive of this situation vs Covid is that Covid was a nightmare because of being able to easily be spread when asymptomatic and from what i understand about the hantavirus is that while the incubation period is longer it isn’t able to spread when asymptomatic. If that shifts we’re probably well and truly fucked

givesomefucks@lemmy.world on 11 May 14:23 collapse

There’s already asymptomatic people running around, no idea if they’re infectious.

But while the incubation can be up to 42 days, it can be as low as 4.

Completely unpredictable which would make tracking if it starts to spread very difficult

Like “what did you do 3 weeks ago” compared to “what did you do every day for the last month and a half excluding the last 72 hours”.

If it gets a foothold it’s going to be very hard to get rid of.

Nope, can be totally asymptomatic all along

Akasazh@lemmy.world on 11 May 16:58 collapse

It’s not a cheap cruise, though.

givesomefucks@lemmy.world on 11 May 17:13 collapse

Monetarily everything is expensive now…

Even “cheap” stuff, like it’s not just a synonym for “inexpensive”.

Commercial cruise ships cheap out on lots of shit, even if you’re paying 5 digits.

I’m so glad we have competent government officials in charge to handle this like the ones we had during COVID. /S

The French, like other European passengers will be put in the WHO recommended 42+ days quarantine. I guess the treatment in the US is the usual “don’t care” method?

Well, you see, since US has fired the agencies who were responsible for tracking outbreaks like this, they no longer need to worry about outbreaks like this.

The treatment is natural selection.
