U.S. Troops Were Told Iran War Is for “Armageddon,” Return of Jesus (jonathanlarsen.substack.com)
from postmateDumbass@lemmy.world to world@lemmy.world on 03 Mar 04:25
https://lemmy.world/post/43790529

A combat-unit commander told non-commissioned officers at a briefing Monday that the Iran war is part of God’s plan and that Pres. Donald Trump was “anointed by Jesus to light the signal fire in Iran to cause Armageddon and mark his return to Earth,” according to a complaint by a non-commissioned officer.

From Saturday morning through Monday night, more than 110 similar complaints about commanders in every branch of the military had been logged by the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF).

The complaints came from more than 40 different units spread across at least 30 military installations, the MRFF told me Monday night.

It was a very small event on November 3, 1973. Interestingly one of the three raptured made big news, but it was covered up. He was a pilot.

sukhmel@programming.dev on 03 Mar 12:33 collapse

I don’t know if you hinted on this, but the story is wild:

A passenger on National Airlines Flight 27 was blown out of the window of an airplane at an altitude of 39,000 feet (12,000 m) over the U.S. state of New Mexico, after the number 3 engine on the Douglas DC-10-10, exploded and fragments penetrated the fuselage. The jet had been en route from Houston to Las Vegas when the accident happened at 4:40 in the afternoon, and made a safe emergency landing in Albuquerque, New Mexico. According to the subsequent NTSB investigation, the cockpit voice recorder showed that the engine explosion happened immediately after the first officer asked the captain “Wonder— wonder if you pull the N1 tach will that— autothrottle respond to N1?” and the captain replied, “Gee, I don’t know.” The first officer then said “You want to try it and see?” Thirty-four seconds later, the explosion happened. An extensive search was unable to locate the passenger, machinist George F. Gardner of Beaumont, Texas, who had been sitting by the window in seat 17F.

LincolnsDogFido@lemmy.zip on 03 Mar 14:57 collapse

I read the Wikipedia article and it looks like the NTSB concluded that conversation and the subsequent “test” they did were inconclusive as the root cause of the engine failure. That specific engine had numerous problems reported prior to the flight and had been taken off and replaced before having even more reported after. It seems to be just coincidental. What’s just as wild to me is that the passenger that was ejected from the plane was even wearing his seatbelt. Explosive decompression still said nuh uh and ripped him out the window.

"most likely" is not actual historical evidence. And there is no historical evidence that the 'jesus' referenced in the christian bible ever lived. As a matter of fact, he was called Yeshua (which translates to Joshua) in the bible stories. Jesus is a greek/latin translation.
Finding historical facts outside of the bible is necessary to verify fiction from fact. We all know that Methuselah could not be 969 Years Old, humans cannot live that long, and 2000 years ago mortality rates were 20-45 years old, not 969.

“When Iran gets into the news, especially with anything to do with war,” says religious historian Diana Butler Bass, “it’s a prophetic dog whistle to evangelicals.”

Last year a lot of those crazies proclaimed via social media, that the rapture was imminent and prepared themselves by undressing, writing last messages to the sinners who’ll be left behind or they even sold their homes. Can’t remember but it could actually have been when the 12 days war with Iran happened.

This rapture thing already should’ve happened a few times, just like with every end times prophecy. The fact the orange menace is in bed with the ultraorthodox christian movements (Dominionists, Seven Mountain Mandate) is well know since his first presidency. Same with their believes about the end-times. Revelation is vague enough they can get anything from it

Jesus thought he was coming back in a few years.

Matthew 16:27-28 “For the Son of Man is to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay everyone for what has been done. Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”

humanspiral@lemmy.ca on 03 Mar 13:29 next collapse

quite sure that none of this in the Bible

Revelations was written after Jesus’s death. John of Patmos was not an apostle. Both Nero and Domitan (latter most likely epoch/context of Revelations) were widely hated and flawed, and meant as a call to rise up and overthrow these dictators. The Romans exiling him to Patmos, specifically did so because it seemed an imminent threat to them rather than a 2000+ years later threat.

TheSeveralJourneysOfReemus@lemmy.world on 03 Mar 13:36 collapse

Yes, the romans (from the known documentation survived from the period) saw these movements and uprisings as political-administrative threats. It is know that, of the roman representatives cited in the bible, these actions aren’t cited in the documentation. We also know that romans had a thing foto writings and documents for such procedures. They used to be a violent bureaucratic centralised power. The archeological evidences seem to prove that the gospels were written with many real places in mind, but the key details are interpretative or missing. 2000 years might be a lot in terms of human lives, but archelogical evidences work on a different time frame, and 2000 years isn’t enough to undo so many evidences. With that in mind, i don’t think any of that can be proven so rigidly if you understand what i mean.

From Abraham’s first hallucinations that the god El promising him the Levant, to Moses admitting that a demon Yahweh impersonated El to fill Abraham’s head with such warmongering delusions, to King David’s victory took 1700 years. No matter how passionate your belief in every schitzos voices in their head’s call for war, when it takes that long to gain control, coincidence rather than divine power to make things/miracles happen, becomes a better argument than the existence of either divine intervention at all, or of a chosen people.

Christianity, turned back into Divine right of Kings in first millenium. Criminal heresy to suggest that Jesus’s humanist points should ever contradict Empire’s warmongering or authoritarianism. That military hierarchy would rely on Old testament demonism is tradition that gives them more power.

The only possible interpretation of Jesus defeating the forces of evil, is that the evil side is the Epstein warmongering regime. The punch line, is that demonic Abrahamic supremacists are converted to Jesus in the end, and so military should interpret this order as attacking Israel and their corrupt hierarchy.

where it’s from?

exodus 6:3 (moses narrative) Yahweh tells Moses that even though Abraham thought his commandments were coming from El, that it was secretly Yahweh impersonating El.

Abraham, like other tribes/cities in Levant, believed in El. But he didn’t believe in the polytheist 70 sons and pantheon of El. Yahweh was one of these sons. Bible has no story of a coup against El by Yahweh, just that Yahweh is transported to the father role, and is Jealous of his mother, but due to teleportation to throne, now his wife, Asherah. Under David, Yahweh sentences the 70 sons to death.

There’s no easy solution, because it’s like trying to treat a cancer that has already been growing for generations and is already metastasizing. Ironically, the best bet from a wide perspective is probably a combination of supporting religious diversity (more institutions who don’t share their views), and even moreso a healthy, science-respecting educational system. These groups thrive most in rural areas with the poorest access to education. They perceive college as a threat for good reason - because their entire worldview is a hot garbage house of cards that immediately crumbles under the slightest scrutiny.

Free public college is the biggest threat to them.

It’s somewhere in Numbers. There’s a prophecy that refers to the last great census of Jerusalem. It refers to time in days, but had previously mentioned that days in this context refer to years. There would be a certain number of years before the Messiah would appear, though they use a flowery title to refer to him, and another number of years before he would be struck down. It then goes on to say that he would return after X number of years. If you do the math, those years come out to 5BC, 27CE, and 1844CE.

Basically it hinges off Genisis saying Man lives for 120 years, and if you multiply that by the amount of Jubilee years (every 50 years in Hebrew tradition) you get 6000. 4000 till Jesus, 2000, till his return, 1000 years of sabbath. Than god will remake the heavens and the earth. For a total of 7000.

It’s a bunch of conjecture that would make biblical numerologists proud.

most Christians totally ignore

There’s almost certainly a reason. I can’t google fu the verse but if you find it please lmk.

I’d imagine the answer to why it’s not generally accepted can be found by comparing translations. Likely it’s the King James or one of the less colloquial ones being ‘misinterpreted’ to suggest a timeframe. But I am speculating here.

AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world on 03 Mar 15:16 collapse

The main reason is that it is really obscure. I’ll see if I can find it.

Edit: yeah, I’m not finding it. It basically says that from the time of the last great census of Jerusalem there would be a certain number of days (days mean years in this part of Numbers.) until the firmament was restored, referring to the Messiah, another number of days before it would be shattered, referring to his death, and a third number of days before the glory of God would appear. Other than that, I’m pretty sure it was one of the books that got separated into parts I and II, but I couldn’t tell you if it was the first or second part.

I got turned onto that particular passage by a Baha’i I was talking to outside of the school, now that I think about it. They used it as proof that Christ had already returned and the Christians missed it as hard as the Jews missed their Messiah.

From this they decided that this was a “key” for translating the other vague messages that deal with timelines. It was entirely assembled and patched together in the imagination of men who needed hobbies.

This is a weird vulnerability in the human condition that our minds developed faster than our actual innate sense of reason and logic. We are the same species we were 5000 years ago, and the same species we were 100,000 years ago, just with more fancy tools around us. These are people who genuinely believe the war on terror is a holy war. Their entire social network is meticulously designed to draw a dichotomy between themselves (apart from the world), vs everyone else (the worldly), to isolate their own against outside views, and indoctrinate their children throughout their entire lives to vigorously proselytize on the one hand, and be ready to eliminate anyone who opposes their worldview on the other. Friend, bOtH pArTiEs have been doing this since at least the 1970s.

The FED isn’t constitutional.

Our parties aren’t constitutional.

Going to war without congressional approval isn’t constitutional.

And so on, it’s a very long list.

Christians are salivating for Jews to return to Isreal. I’ve known this since I was raised in the church.

Zephaniah 3:19–20 – God promises to gather His people and bring them home, giving them honor and praise. Hosea 3:5 – Israel will return and seek the Lord and David their king in the last days. Jeremiah 16:14–15 – A greater exodus than Egypt—the Lord bringing Israel back from all nations.

SabinStargem@lemmy.today on 03 Mar 22:51 collapse

There are easier ways to do that. Just offer a subsidy and cooperation with Israel to fast-track Jewish migration and integration.

Of course, that isn’t why Israel is doing genocide, war, and evil in general. They do it because that makes their leaders feel funny in the nethers.
