I did not have “Trump - Climate Change Warrior/Eco-Terrorist” on my 2026 disaster bingo card.

He will go down in history for saving the world from itself.

Europe should make its own deal with Iran. Just have Iran agree to refrain from making a nuclear bomb and all sanctions would be lifted.

Brkdncr@lemmy.world on 01 Apr 03:11 next collapse

They might not accept that right now. They are fighting for their lives against a nuclear power.

panthera_@lemmy.today on 01 Apr 03:33 collapse

No, Iran reaching an agreement with Europe would show what type of deal Iran is willing to accept. If most countries like it, the US might follow. Also, Europe would immediately begin trading with Iran.

Brkdncr@lemmy.world on 01 Apr 03:53 next collapse

I hope you’re right. The republicans seem to be ok with an unhinged negotiator.

nogooduser@lemmy.world on 01 Apr 06:36 next collapse

I don’t think that Europe could start trading with Iran without backlash from the US.

Don’t their sanctions usually knock on to anyone who trades with the sanctioned country?

Although with TACO in charge it would just be another day another argument I guess.

panthera_@lemmy.today on 01 Apr 14:36 collapse

Trump would certainly be angry, but he’s already angry with Europe for not taking part in the US and Israel’s war with Iran. Europe must stand up to Trump. Europa must become a man.

TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone on 01 Apr 14:42 collapse

But they were already willing to reach an agreement on nuclear development before the war started. They were at the negotiating table, and the US showed to them that trying to negotiate for peace was a fool’s errand.

panthera_@lemmy.today on 01 Apr 19:30 collapse

No, negotiating with Trump is difficult because he demands too much. That’s the reason Iran should negotiate with Europe.

rimu@piefed.social on 01 Apr 06:32 collapse

After everything that has happened, Iran cannot trust any deals.

Iran will not reopen the strait until the whole world knows that attacking Iran is not worth it. They need to inflict enough pain so that decades from now future US presidents remember what happened.

We are a long way from that.

panthera_@lemmy.today on 01 Apr 14:41 collapse

Iran is also suffering. The purpose of a deal is to end suffering for everyone.

GuyIncognito@lemmy.ca on 01 Apr 15:20 collapse

This is true, but they aren’t in a position to trust any peace deal with the US and Israel. Their thinking, which I would agree with, is that any ceasefire or peace deal will just be buying time to rebuild the stocks, get everything in position, and start this up again in 6 months to a year. They are treating this as an existential war

panthera_@lemmy.today on 01 Apr 19:21 collapse

But with the security guarantee I mentioned, the US and Israel won’t attack again. Surely, Iran trusts Russia.

GuyIncognito@lemmy.ca on 01 Apr 20:17 collapse

Trusts them to go to war against Israel and America for them? I don’t think so.

panthera_@lemmy.today on 01 Apr 21:04 collapse

Yes, because Russia would not want a US controlled Iran. The US would be able to manipulate the price of oil which would affect Russia.
