Donald Trump has claimed there have been talks between the United States and Iran over the past day in which the two sides had “major points of agreement”, appearing to avert a potentially severe escalation of the conflict.
Tehran has denied the claim, in which Trump also speculated that a deal could soon be done to end the war. Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson said no talks had been held with the US since the bombing campaign began 24 days ago.
Trump’s threat at the weekend to “hit and obliterate” Iran’s power stations and energy infrastructure if Tehran did not allow shipping to move freely through the strait of Hormuz, and Iran’s threat to destroy infrastructure across the Middle East in retaliation, had raised fears of a deepening conflict and global economic crisis.

It was probably like the talks about a Ukraine war ceasefire. Y’know, the ones where Ukraine wasn’t present.
Or he met with some puppet nowhere near a position of power that will gladly do trump’s bidding to be installed as post war “leader”.
Weird how every time Trump says that he’s in secret talks with someone, the other party denies it. It’s like everyone is lying all the time, or just one person is lying all the time. It’s sad when I believe other countries that we’re at war with over the president.
It is sad. The U.S. has destroyed its credibility in the world, and we can thank Trump and those who voted him in for that.
Don’t forget those who sat at home. Non-voters are to blame too.
But if they had voted for Kamala the middle east would be a mess and Israel would be commiting war crimes!
The real blame lies with the politicians, especially the Democrats, for not having a positive message that motivates people to vote. Both Trump and Kamala were genocidal and the Democrats don’t disagree with going to war against Iran, they just have a bunch of process concerns. They’re totally cool with bombing schools and hospitals and sending kids to die for Israel, they just feel like the proper procedure to do so should be followed.
The democrats and republicans are both on one side, the ruling class. Both are the enemies of the working class.
If the most untrustworthy person I’ve personally known and Trump both said something different I’d believe the person I’ve known before Trump. Yet somehow Trump gets to be in charge of the biggest military on earth.
He may not know. We know he’s losing his faculties. He demands what he wants from his yes men - that they talk to Iran, that the work out an end to this war, etc. And they don’t dare aregue back. They probably don’t quite lie, but sneak around the truth, but he doesn’t notice and then goes on believing what he wants.

Honest question: which Iranian leader could realistically talk to Trump, and how?
For Iran apparently this is a time when being in a leadership role and using a phone or the internet are not compatible with remaining alive (together with family, quite a few neighbors and any nearby school or hospital). Even participating in a naval exercise that is supposed to be peaceful gets your whole ship torpedoed.
No, seriously, how would these supposed talks have happened and how would the US know that the person(s) they are talking to has any actual decision-making power? I am not saying talks don’t happen during a war but, looking at Russia and Ukraine, doesn’t it take weeks just to organize them?
