But China, Iran and Russia are saying that’s a legit election…

No word from north Korea yet, though…

China pays, Iran provides the naphtha to make the thick venezuelan oil easier to pump and russia provides the extra violence…NK…likes to watch?

So Maduro is gonna concede, right?

Until the original tally sheets can be sent to me by trusted courier, I'm not sure I will believe the Washington Post's so-called analysis. Smells like US imperialism again.

Gsus4@mander.xyz on 05 Aug 2024 22:50 next collapse

Ask for the official results Maduro is holding too, by the way. He won, so it should be easy.

AmidFuror@fedia.io on 05 Aug 2024 23:26 next collapse

That didn't work for me, but I did end up getting a response.

Maduro cited the bible and stated “blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed” so what more proof do we need?

I have to defer to your expertise.

Venezuela quality of life is so horrid right now, people are leaving everything and traveling thousands of miles to get away from it. It’s no wonder people would want their president out… but it’s the US imperialism that’s at fault, obviously.

Venezuela’s quality of life took a nosedive because of US imposed sanctions chump.

count_dongulus@lemmy.world on 07 Aug 2024 13:21 collapse

Let’s follow this thought: Perhaps competent leadership would not have intentionally alienated a critical economic partner that is responsible for such a large aspect of their constituency’s quality of life, especially if there wasn’t serious ongoing work to obviate that relationship before cutting ties. The US still trades heavily with China despite disagreeing with the Chinese government ideologically, for instance.

sazey@lemmy.world on 07 Aug 2024 14:59 collapse

I appreciate your point of view and you raise a decent point. In a perfect world. Bear in mind this is not USA themselves choosing not to buy oil from Venezuela, this is the USA using its dominant economy and weaponising the dollar by stopping anyone who wants to trade with the USA from purchasing Venezuelan oil. Now let’s look at the reasons it came about. Trade or land dispute or other ongoing disagreement? Nope, Venezuela’s domestic economic policies were the reason why. To call it anything other than naked imperialism is either denial, ignorance or collusion. And now (basically) the same people want to turn around and feign concern about democratic right and such. Come on now, I would expect to have to connect the dots on Reddit and such but not here.

sudo@programming.dev on 08 Aug 2024 03:05 collapse

… but it’s the US imperialism that’s at fault, obviously

It’s literally the direct consequence of US sanctions. That’s the literal goal of sanctions.

spongebue@lemmy.world on 08 Aug 2024 03:16 collapse

So Maduro’s response should be to falsely claim victory in the election? Or do you think he actually won?

sudo@programming.dev on 08 Aug 2024 21:58 collapse

Irrelevant to the point I’m making. We, the US, are the ones starving Venezuelans, not Maduro. Everything else is none of our business.

sazey@lemmy.world on 06 Aug 2024 12:26 collapse

Imagine believing the mf WaPo, the most obvious of intelligence mouthpieces, on anything concerning foreign policy. Hate to say it but place is more packed full of chumps than Reddit.

Gsus4@mander.xyz on 06 Aug 2024 13:04 collapse

Imagine believing that someone who won an election won’t release the official vote counts.

If Maduro runs a military dictatorshit, at least they should own up to it.

Gordito@lemmy.world on 06 Aug 2024 02:04 next collapse

How did the world react when Bush and Gore election results were questioned and it was decided that despite Gore having more votes Bush won? I’m not saying Maduro held fair elections but the only reason the G7 countries want to remove the dictator is so the oil can be extracted for private companies. Not because of the nature of the current government. If this were the case they wouldn’t have wreaked chaos all over south America, the middle East, Asia and Africa by replacing democratic governments with dictators throughout the past 75 years.
