Isn’t this the guy Trump praised way back when?

"ICC is a criminal organization!"

  • Trump, soon

Trump loves every strongman and dictator.

I want to believe that there is still justice in this world, but I’m not very hopeful.

MutilationWave@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 11 Mar 2025 10:58 collapse

Better late than never. I wish they’d throw him out of a helicopter like he bragged about doing to “drug addicts”.

hakunawazo@lemmy.world on 11 Mar 2025 20:02 collapse

He also bragged about personal killings.

commander@lemmings.world on 11 Mar 2025 08:20 next collapse

Good. The anti-drug laws in the philippines are barbaric and the perpetrators need to face justice.

Bongbong Marcos is the son of another former president and dictator Ferdinand Marcos.

In 1972, Ferdinand Marcos declared martial law because of “communism” and committed a lot of human rights abuses like imprisoning and killing journalists, students, teachers, his political opponents, etc. He also plundered a lot of money. Up to this day, the Marcos family uses propaganda to disinform the people of the crimes they committed.

So no, there’s no hope in the Marcoses. The Marcos family shoud quit politics and pay back their debt. Anyway, I hope you learned a bit more about our political situation here.

How TF is this the first time I’ve ever seen a Tagalog post on the internet? And also why is there no good translator?

AntiBullyRanger@ani.social on 11 Mar 2025 11:32 next collapse
  1. 'cause you’re not seeking Tagalog content?
  2. because it’s a small language, used by an extreme minority? More people use a language, more demand for translation. S&D⚖📉🪦
naught101@lemmy.world on 11 Mar 2025 12:26 collapse

Hrm, I guess… But it’s the 23rd most spoken language globally… Nearly 90 million speakers, and I don’t think I’ve even seen the alphabet until now. I feel like I’ve seen lots of posts from less populous languages…

Baguette@lemm.ee on 11 Mar 2025 18:22 next collapse

I will say all the filipino memes I see are all using tagalog with the latin alphabet. Never seen this alphabet before.

AntiBullyRanger@ani.social on 12 Mar 2025 03:54 collapse

Same supply and demand issue: how many Baybayin keyboards do you see in the making&circulation, virtual or physical? Thus the US&Spanish alphabet was forced.

speaking isn’t writing. also: lemmy.cafe/comment/10264713

naught101@lemmy.world on 12 Mar 2025 04:59 collapse

True! Thanks for the learning opportunity :)

apt@lemmy.cafe on 11 Mar 2025 13:38 collapse

That’s Baybayin. It’s an old Tagalog script that isn’t really used anymore outside of aesthetic purposes. It’s not commonly taught and used in schools for example. Even I couldn’t read this without a guide. There are some efforts to try to revive it though.

Tagalog is usually written with the English alphabet. Like this: Magandang gabi po. Google Translate works.

naught101@lemmy.world on 11 Mar 2025 22:20 collapse

Ah, that explains it, thanks! It’s a cool looking script!

SLVRDRGN@lemmy.world on 11 Mar 2025 12:52 collapse

Wow, that is beautiful script.

Wow, that is incredible. I can’t believe they captured him. He could actually stand trial for his horrible crimes, and his victims could finally have justice. The first of hopefully many crazy authoritarian nuts getting what they deserve.

FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world on 11 Mar 2025 14:02 collapse

Incredible is the word I’d use too.

And it feels kind of important to watch a dictator have to face justice right now.

Puddinghelmet@lemmy.world on 11 Mar 2025 14:15 collapse

At least they are still respecting the ICC … 👍
