…Trump also suggested during the high-level meeting with Xi Jinping that the US, China and Russia should join forces to challenge the International Criminal Court, noting that their interests align.

Moscow’s puppet president is starting to feel the noose tighten. When his term ends, so does his legal immunity and likely his freedom.

CountVon@sh.itjust.works on 19 May 14:06 next collapse

Once he loses power, he’ll be pretty lucky if he only loses his freedom. He’s kept a lot of oligarchs under his thumb for a long time…

Delta_V@lemmy.world on 19 May 18:05 collapse

Maybe the “Epstine didn’t kill himself” people will have something to say about that.

NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io on 19 May 14:24 next collapse

Uh... Why do you think terms matter for Putin? Though either way he's popular enough to win a somewhat fair election.

leoj@piefed.social on 19 May 15:02 collapse

pretty sure they are talking about DJ

aketawi@quokk.au on 19 May 14:46 next collapse

term ends

hahah yeah about that, so there was that one time he amended the Fucking Constitution to remove presidency term limits so uh

leoj@piefed.social on 19 May 15:03 collapse

I think they are referring to DJ.

He’ll be doing the same

Changing USA’s constitution requires a 2/3’s vote in both House of Representatives and Senate, plus ratification by 3/4’s of the States (i.e. 38 States).

Right now, neither side has the numbers to pass a constitutional amendment.

Republicans control 28 states, Democrats have 18, and 4 are split.

At the Federal level, the House and Senate are both close to an even 50/50 split.

Nonw of that matters when he’s god king emperor

backalleycoyote@lemmy.today on 19 May 23:23 collapse

The Constitution has as much power as the paper it’s written on if the judicial branch won’t use it as a guideline, the executive branch does whatever they please, and the legislative branch codifies the new behavior after the act, which is then allowed to stand because the judicial branch doesn’t care if it’s unconstitutional.

NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io on 20 May 01:51 collapse

That makes a lot more sense.

Didn’t happen last time, short of a leftist coup in the dem party, why would we expect them to do anything this time?

I know they say the evil ones never die, but I just don’t see the guy lasting many more years. If the water gets too warm, he’ll flee the country.

Russia needs China more than the latter need Russia. This is not a formal alliance, just an amicable partnership. I doubt Putin regrets it on a personal level. The man doesn’t give a fuck about those that have suffered, but at an operational level it has massively weekend Russia and China are making Putin still appear strong whilst making Trump look just ‘meh’.

Just casually proposing an Axis of Illiberalism. In case you were unaware we are the baddies.

It’s an axis of fascism. You can tell because of all the fascism.

the Chinese president made the comments during wide-ranging talks that touched on Ukraine and included Trump suggesting that the three leaders should co-operate against the International Criminal Court.

Wait… What? Who cares about gossip about Putin when this is sitting right there?

Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz on 19 May 15:08 next collapse

Trump just says dumb shit. Xi has no reason to fear the ICC, and America passed The Hague Invasion Act, which requires America to invade if an American serviceman is ever detained by them so Trump has nothing to fear outside America.

atzanteol@sh.itjust.works on 19 May 15:30 collapse

It’s more that “the law and order president” wants to conspire with autocrats Putin and Xi against the rule of international law. That’s your headline, not scuttlebut about whether Putin will regret a war he started.

Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz on 19 May 15:46 collapse

Only because Trump is so ignorant as to not understand the ICC is largely a tool of the US; we aren’t bound by it, but we can use it to bind others or just generally justify further hostile actions.

Same with him talking about disbanding NATO. That one, I’m certain he knows how much cutting his fellow billionaires off from Raytheon’s biggest market would hurt them, and is only saying dumb shit to get Europeans to buy more US weapons.

Trump is confusing “international criminal court” and “international court of criminals”
