This fucking future sucks.

Police in Haiti has killed more than 1000 people with drones. What is this bullshit avoiding attribution to actually responsible people?

Deestan@lemmy.world on 15 Mar 09:43 next collapse

Bullets went on a killing spree

If you’re gonna get all bent out of shape about it then why attribute to police when they don’t have volition in the matter: “Haiti has killed more than 1000 people with police drones”

Police AND private contractors like Erik Prince

sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 15 Mar 15:46 collapse

Well, its called burying the lede:

(End of the article)

Since August of 2025, Blackwater founder and prominent Donald Trump donor Erik Prince has helped deploy hundreds of private mercenaries to Haiti, Al Jazeera has reported. In addition to supplying personnel, Prince has acted as a key advisor to the drone assassination task force responsible for the devastation, which has drawn condemnations from human rights groups for suspected violations of international law.

Blackwater is a private military company responsible for the Nisour Square Massacre in Iraq, a shooting which left 17 civilians dead. (The four contractors responsible were pardoned by Trump during his first stint in the Oval Office.)

Evidently, Prince is now exporting that same carnage to Haiti — this time with drones — furthering a history of heavy-handed US meddling in the affairs of the beleaguered Caribbean nation.

Surprise!

Somehow, Blackwater returned.

But uh yeah burying the lede is what you do when you’re a coward, journalist style.

Though the ongoing drone attacks are said to be part of a protracted campaign to reign in gang activity, there are at least 17 children counted among the dead, as well as 43 adults who are confirmed to have been civilian non-combatants

Minors can be gang members and murderers.

Interesting would be to know how many people the gangs killed on the same time. How many people did police kill in other ways in recent years?

VoiHyvaLuojaMitaNyt@lemmy.world on 15 Mar 10:12 next collapse

You could also be a gang member and murderer. Never can be sure. So I guess a police drone should be on its way to you?

Samskara@sh.itjust.works on 15 Mar 10:22 collapse

Haiti is a pretty violent place. This article tells us very little context.

VoiHyvaLuojaMitaNyt@lemmy.world on 15 Mar 10:32 collapse

indeed, very little context and information but you still felt the need to say that the children that were killed were probably gang members and murderers. A bit weird if you ask me, but you do you.

Samskara@sh.itjust.works on 15 Mar 10:34 collapse

probably

I mean possibly.

VoiHyvaLuojaMitaNyt@lemmy.world on 15 Mar 10:43 collapse

Yeah I know. That’s why I said that its possible that you are also a gang member and should be droned. I assume you don’t have a problem with that.

Samskara@sh.itjust.works on 15 Mar 10:45 collapse

I didn’t say anything about anyone should be droned.

VoiHyvaLuojaMitaNyt@lemmy.world on 15 Mar 10:50 next collapse

You were told that 17 children were killed by drones and dismissed that by saying “they could have been gang members.” That implies that you are okay with those children being killed by the drones, because they could have been gang members.

I’m just pointing out how absurd it is to say that because anyone anywhere could be a criminal, that doesn’t mean they should be killed by a drone.

Samskara@sh.itjust.works on 15 Mar 10:53 collapse

Just because they are minors, doesn’t make them innocent by default.

The whole article is devoid of details on how these drones are used.

VoiHyvaLuojaMitaNyt@lemmy.world on 15 Mar 10:56 collapse

That is correct, being children doesn’t make them innocent by default, Being human makes them innocent by default.

You need to prove they are criminals before you start punishments.

Samskara@sh.itjust.works on 15 Mar 13:00 collapse

See, we agree.

Railcar8095@lemmy.world on 15 Mar 15:39 collapse

I don’t think anybody agrees there’s a context where police killing children with drones is justified.

I don’t think anybody should agree with police killing children in any context.

I don’t think any reaaonable person, even those who agree there are situations where lethal force by the police is justified, would agree a drone strike is the right way to dispense justice.

But seagulls have to seagull I guess, so go ahead with your dishonest “questions”.

teslekova@sh.itjust.works on 15 Mar 14:23 collapse

Just asking questions, eh?

You might be innocently asking, but be aware that what you did is a common rhetorical technique that right-wing propagandists use to stop people from caring about violence against the innocent.

If you had brought up the possibility that the police were, say, killing children for money with their drones, or their drones were being hacked by criminal gangs, or that US mercenary groups - like the one run by Erik Prince - are actually flying them, then you may not have mistakenly furthered the goals of empire.

SalmiakDragon@feddit.nu on 15 Mar 10:34 collapse

Pretends to care about nuance by positing children could be murderers

Blatantly ignores 43 confirmed innocents killed mentioned in own comment
