Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa on Monday declared his support for his Lebanese counterpart Joseph Aoun in the latter’s effort to disarm Hezbollah.

The Middle East war expanded to Lebanon on March 2, after Tehran-backed Hezbollah fired rockets toward Israel in response to the killing of Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei on the first day of US-Israeli attacks on Iran

Since March 2, Israel has been conducting large-scale air raids on Lebanon and incursions with ground troops, killing at least 486 people according to the Lebanese health ministry.

Ahh what better help than a terrorist appointed by jizzrael.

Is this the Al Qaeda guy?

mlg@lemmy.world on 10 Mar 08:37 collapse

Yeah the reformist who suddenly follows CIA instructions to the tee

mcv@lemmy.zip on 10 Mar 10:27 collapse

Suddenly? Wasn’t Al Qaeda originally trained by the CIA?

mlg@lemmy.world on 10 Mar 11:25 collapse

Trained yeah, but it’s not like they were known for following their handler’s orders after the Afghan Soviet war ended.

They assisted in casuing 9/11, but then they spent the next 10 years trying to find OBL.

I meant “suddenly” as if all of his previous ideological goals didn’t just fly out the window the second he got access to a supply line lol.

There’s A LOT of negative things we can point out in regards of both Lebanon and Syria, but getting rid of Assad was a step in the right direction, and the eventual downfall of Hezbollah will also be good.

geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml on 10 Mar 14:13 collapse

The downfall of the only resistance against Israel is good?

sinnsykfinbart@lemmy.world on 10 Mar 18:05 collapse

The only resistance? Hamas, PLO, Iran would like to differ.

But the reality is that Hezbollah is a plague for Lebanon. An Islamic ultra conservative cult with its own militia is not a good thing. They won’t hesitate to bring the country into other regional conflicts, remember they also actively supported Assad in the civil war.

geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml on 10 Mar 19:49 collapse

How very convenient for Israel that you want to get rid of the " Islamic ultra conservative cult".

Do you call Israel a " Jewish ultra conservative cult" too? How about the literal Al Qaeda terrorist in Syria?

sinnsykfinbart@lemmy.world on 10 Mar 20:45 collapse

It’s very possible to condemn multiple bad groups. Israel is an undemocratic, colonial, war crime mob state. And at the same time, Hezbollah are Iran backed religious lunatics with missiles. They are not contributing to anything positive in the region. They are actively destabilizing Lebanon, which is positive for Israel.

Who do you think help arm and fund Hamas in the beginning? Ooh it’s Israel. Why? Destabilizing Palestinian unity. Who benefits? Israel.

nert@lemmy.zip on 10 Mar 12:01 next collapse

Of course he would, Hezbollah massacred Syrian’s for the Assad regime.

geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml on 10 Mar 13:51 collapse

You mean the Assad guys now working for him?

nert@lemmy.zip on 10 Mar 13:57 collapse

Based on what I heard from my Syrian neighbors and colleagues is they hate Hezbollah more than Assad himself.

geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml on 10 Mar 14:12 collapse

Sounds like very poorly informed diaspora. Israel is invading Lebanon through Syria right now.

Mrkawfee@lemmy.world on 11 Mar 10:08 collapse

So thats why the CIA made the head of Al Qaeda in Syria the new President.
