The lower house of the Russian parliament approved legislation imposing fines on people searching online for content that the authorities deem “extremist.” Protesters are calling the bill “something out of 1984.”

Just another brick in the wall.
And to think that some people still bristle when I say Russia hasn’t been a democracy for a long time.
But hey, all the best to the protestors. In that political climate, it’s an act of selfless heroism.
it never was a democracy, they always were in a authoritarian rule for most of its history.
Guess they can’t search for news about their ‘special military operation’ then…
This is what governments do when they have the power to do so. Online privacy is important. If you think you “have nothing to hide”, think again.
As if ruzzia needs laws to get rid of someone. It just a display of power and brainwash and russian will continue to support it.
Well I mean if Putin wants you gone he doesn’t need a rule to permit it, but his sort of law is about pushing that oppressive power down to lower levels of the chain. You dont need to catch the attention of anyone important, you can be oppressed by an anonymous low level clerk on a power trip.
And this is what Trump wants for America. Nice.
Sneak preview of the US in a few years.
