Washington announced on Nov. 1 a new military aid package for Kyiv worth $425 million, according to a U.S. Defense Department press release.

The day prior, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said during a joint press conference that the U.S. would “soon” provide Ukraine with another aid package in light of North Korean troops’ involvement in Russia’s war.

. . .

The aid list includes munitions for NASAMS missile systems, Stinger missiles, ammunition for HIMARS rocket systems, tube-launched, optically tracked, and wire-guided (TOW) missiles, Javelin and AT-4 anti-armor systems, as well as 155mm and 105mm artillery ammunition.

Not if certain people on Lemmy have anything to say about it.

It’s more that zelensky just said that only a small portion of this year’s aid was actually delivered.

I thought he meant much of the aid that Congress allocated hadn’t been spent, not that the shipments for stuff we did send were delayed.

“You do your job. You count on reserves, you count on special brigades, you count on such equipment. And if you get 10% of all the package (that) has already been voted on… it’s not funny,”

Right, so monthly shipments like this are not what is being delayed, its that fact that only 10% of the total allocation from Congress has been spent so far. But that also needs to last till next year so not totally unexpected but wish it was more around 20-30% since we used to do $1.5 billion a month regularly and this would’ve been a good time to make an impact.

That is like 1/200th of the US’ annual military budget. They can spare some more.

Walteracc@lemmynsfw.com on 02 Nov 04:10 collapse

They can’t. They’re too busy trying to send as many weapons as possible to Israel instead and Ukraine doesn’t have bipartisan support, so they’re not a top priority.
