Summary

A 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck eastern Cuba on Sunday, adding to the hardships faced by residents after recent hurricanes and widespread blackouts.

The quake’s epicenter was 25 miles south of Bartolome Maso, and tremors were felt across cities like Santiago de Cuba, Holguin, and Guantanamo, as well as in Jamaica.

While no major injuries or damage were immediately reported, residents experienced aftershocks and minor structural impacts.

This natural disaster follows weeks of severe weather and power outages, sparking protests amid growing public discontent.

Sparking protests? Against what, nature or is the government providing inadequate aid?

Are you seriously asking if people are protesting the weather?

bassomitron@lemmy.world on 11 Nov 2024 00:09 collapse

No, obviously. The article brings it up and doesn’t explain anything beyond “discontent.”

The country can’t get it’s shit together and it’s been months since most of the people have had reliable power. No reliable power means no refrigeration which makes keeping foods challenging.

Yeah but protests in Cuba aren’t going to do much, it’s mostly the US embargo that’s keeping them down.

Two plus two… It’s not hard to figure out.
