Summary

Donald Trump Jr. hosted a lunch in Nuuk, Greenland, attended by people wearing MAGA hats, some of whom were reportedly homeless individuals invited for free food.

Greenlandic hotel executive Jørgen Bay-Kastrup claimed many attendees were unaware of Trump Jr.'s identity.

The event occurred amid Trump’s push to acquire Greenland, despite repeated refusals from Denmark.

Locals reported MAGA-themed stunts, including $100 bill distributions by influencers.

Hilariously pathetic.

ytsedude@lemmy.world on 17 Jan 04:11 next collapse

The only way they’d assist people suffering from homelessness.

Dude! You can’t incite violence… Besides talk is cheap

BigDanishGuy@sh.itjust.works on 17 Jan 05:15 next collapse

There’s a story in Danish news media about a preteen girl getting a 100 USD bill from the advance people. The dad got pissed, framed the bill and put it on the wall and donated its value to charity. The story concludes with a statement from the tax authorities, that the money must be reported as taxable income.

IDK about you, but if people associated with a child molester’s son, working to further the child molester’s cause, had given my kids money, I’d be fucking furious.

Framing it seems like a strange response… Usually you do that for things you value…

Badland9085@lemm.ee on 17 Jan 19:08 collapse

Or things that remind you of some event, which may not be a pleasant one.

RestrictedAccount@lemmy.world on 17 Jan 22:56 collapse

Or so when people ask you what it is for you can retell the story

mydude@lemmy.world on 17 Jan 08:44 next collapse

There are 600-800 homeless people in all of Greenland… For the people it concerns, it’s a great problem because of the cold climate, but it’s not a huge number of people. Why would they target this extremely small group? Any thoughts?

Famko@lemmy.world on 17 Jan 09:42 next collapse

Easily bought I presume. Giving free food is cheaper than handing out money to people who are in a better financial position.

towerful@programming.dev on 17 Jan 10:52 next collapse

Likely less informed as well.
Why the hell would homeless people in another country give a shit about another countries politicians which has had 0 impact on their lives

corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca on 17 Jan 22:30 collapse

Money is payment. Food can be spun as kind-hearted. “I just bought them lunch; why are you being so mean about it?”

tb_@lemmy.world on 17 Jan 10:10 next collapse

A greater crowd in attendance, even if they’re there just for the food, lends an air of legitimacy.
It’s all about appearances.

kautau@lemmy.world on 17 Jan 11:42 next collapse

Yeah considering how butthurt Trump got about how few people showed up to his first inauguration and then spending so much effort trying to change the narrative, this is exactly it. No matter how hard he fails it’s important that it looks like a success to the idiots that voted him in and are eagerly waiting for egg prices to dip

prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone on 17 Jan 17:27 collapse

Yeah how the fuck is this not self-apparant? Do people really need this explained to them?

Quadhammer@lemmy.world on 17 Jan 17:59 collapse

They’ll also make the populace… look like homeless people

Absaroka@lemmy.world on 17 Jan 14:59 next collapse

They were the only ones that would attend …

Adderbox76@lemmy.ca on 17 Jan 15:05 next collapse

Because they are clueless.

In their tiny, pathetic, syphilitic minds, every country must have the same problems as the U.S. It’s inconceivable to these morons that Greenland wouldn’t actually have a large percentage of homeless people, because the U.S. does.

The conversation probably quite literally went like this between two morons sitting in Mar a Lago:

“Hey, let’s just get some homeless people to show up.”

"Do they have homeless people in Greenland.

“Of Course they do! Look around. They’re everywhere…” (Completely ignoring the fact that they’re not actually in Greenland.

hungryphrog@lemmy.blahaj.zone on 17 Jan 15:09 collapse

Besides, a homeless person probably wouldn’t turn down free lunch.

prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone on 17 Jan 17:28 collapse

How is the reasoning here not self-apparant? It’s crazy to me that people need additional information to put two and two together here.

FlyingSquid@lemmy.world on 17 Jan 10:43 next collapse

And even with that fakery, they could only find 15 people.

Absaroka@lemmy.world on 17 Jan 15:01 next collapse

Here’s the problem though.

Was it obvious the whole thing was staged? Yup. Just like the McDonald’s stunt from the summer and several others.

Do the people it’s targeting know this? Nope. Because Fox News and the right wing media aren’t reporting on how fake it was. They just show a few clips and talk about how the people of Greenland really really want to be part of the US.

And by the time the duplicity if fully reported on, the lemmings already believe it hook line and sinker.

I_Has_A_Hat@lemmy.world on 17 Jan 15:11 next collapse

Yep, we’re on day 5? 6? Of hyper-anaylizing this event and finding inconsistencies and deceptive practices? Meanwhile his supporters have already forgotten this whole event. They’ve moved on and filed the whole thing away as yet more overwhelming proof that the people in Greenland love them and they are right about everything.

random_character_a@lemmy.world on 17 Jan 20:53 collapse

First who gets the click drowns everything that follows. Because nobody has attention span to spare to read about Greenland the second time.

Wonderful time to create alternative realities.

rabber@lemmy.ca on 17 Jan 17:04 next collapse

Honestly I’m surprised homelessness exists in Greenland

njm1314@lemmy.world on 17 Jan 21:49 collapse

A lot of homeless people in greenland? I wouldn’t think it’s an environment conductive to living without Shelter.

TheMightyCanuck@sh.itjust.works on 17 Jan 22:05 collapse

Homeless people don’t just exist in places that have a mild climate you know…

njm1314@lemmy.world on 17 Jan 22:42 collapse

No, but when the climate is severe enough they don’t usually last long.
