After weeks of reporting on Israel’s war from Gaza City, I was one of thousands of Palestinians who fled south on Friday.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Children, people in wheelchairs, the elderly, babies — everyone was carrying their backpacks, pillows, and mats.

All the people started holding out their green IDs, raised their hands and their white flags.

To our left was a tank and soldiers holding their rifles, watching us through binoculars on a sand hill.

To our right were four soldiers standing in front a bombed-out building, posing and taking selfies on the rubble.

As we approached the soldiers, I saw a naked man standing in front of the sand hill alongside three other men with their heads down.

Another man with a yellow five-gallon water jug and a blond child were called over by the soldiers.

The original article contains 1,590 words, the summary contains 112 words. Saved 93%. I’m a bot and I’m open source!

Don’t read the tl;dr. It misses almost everything. Read the article.

I wish communities would start banning that bot. It’s summaries are mostly awful, typically missing critical details in an article to the point of completely altering itsintent.

This example is particularly egregious though, I think it had a stroke.
