Just tell russia to fuck off right out of Ukraine.

FlyingSquid@lemmy.world on 16 Jan 17:18 collapse

That’s not what Trump’s bosses, Musk and Putin, want.

T00l_shed@lemmy.world on 16 Jan 17:33 collapse

I know :(

Rogue_Agent@reddthat.com on 16 Jan 17:24 next collapse

Trump will get done what Biden couldn’t just like he has with Hamas but it’s going to take some time now since Biden decided to escalate the war right before leaving office by giving the go ahead to Ukraine to attack Russia with US weaponry and giving them the weaponry to do it.

cm0002@lemmy.world on 16 Jan 17:31 next collapse

Yea sure buddy, just like he’s gonna make gas and egg prices magically fall LMAO.

Is reddthat the right-wing shithole of Lemmy or something? Seems like every MAGAt shittake is coming out of that instance

k_rol@lemmy.ca on 16 Jan 17:33 collapse

Oh no don’t call them redhat, I still like redhat the company even though it was bought out.

BrokenGlepnir@lemmy.world on 16 Jan 18:36 next collapse

The reason he couldn’t get it done with Hamas was that Trump had promised Israel he wouldn’t pressure a ceasefire if he won. If he hadn’t made that promise this could have ended six months ago. The only reason it’s happening now is he’s saying he will break the promise. I mean, what has he actually offered Israel that was not already offered, to accept what sounds like the exact same deal from months ago?

Rogue_Agent@reddthat.com on 16 Jan 21:33 collapse

Bidens had over 400 days to get a deal done and couldn’t. Trump said that if the hostages weren’t released by the time he takes office all hell would break loose in the middle east. It’s obvious what happened here, at least to most of the country

BrokenGlepnir@lemmy.world on 16 Jan 22:45 collapse

What does “all hell” even mean. Big talk, small stick . Besides, he said that since before the election, so why didn’t it happen the moment he was elected? Also, I think this is the deal Hamas wanted signed months ago. It was Israel that rejected it. Israel wanted all hostages and a temporary ceasefire, not a long term one.

Rogue_Agent@reddthat.com on 17 Jan 01:45 collapse

This should explain it for you. dictionary.cambridge.org/…/all-hell-breaks-loose Trump said this in a press conference recently. m.youtube.com/watch?v=gkpXk_15xdI I looked and couldn’t find it before the election. Even if he did say it before the election, terrorists wait till the last minute to release the hostages in order to get as many concessions as possible before the deadline they were given. The Iran hostage crisis played out in a very similar manner. Jimmy Carter also tried to get the hostages back for a year with no success. It wasn’t until Reagan was coming into office that the hostages were released.

FlyingSquid@lemmy.world on 16 Jan 21:48 next collapse

Trump will get done what Biden couldn’t

Like domestic genocide.

Rogue_Agent@reddthat.com on 17 Jan 01:54 collapse

Sure bud, if you say so

FlyingSquid@lemmy.world on 17 Jan 10:31 collapse

I do say so. That’s what it’s called when you round up 20 million people of color and put them in concentration deportation camps.

You do know that’s the plan, right?

small44@lemmy.world on 16 Jan 22:32 collapse

Biden could but didn’t want a cease fire

Rogue_Agent@reddthat.com on 17 Jan 01:54 collapse

Biden didn’t want a cease fire?

small44@lemmy.world on 17 Jan 02:43 collapse

Yes, he is just a hypocrite. He will always be remembered as genocide joe

Chainweasel@lemmy.world on 16 Jan 17:31 next collapse

[X] Doubt

skvlp@lemm.ee on 16 Jan 17:32 next collapse

I’d expect him to put Ukraine on a silver platter and hand it over to Putin, but if he’s able to get Russia to fuck off from Ukraine then yay, i guess.

justOnePersistentKbinPlease@fedia.io on 16 Jan 17:57 collapse

I suppose it might be that first term he wasnt expected to win, so the only one with any sway was Putin, the Saudis, the MAGA nutjobs and other outside influence.

At this point though corporate US knows how to manipulate him, so I hope a more Dubya / Raegan style presidency is in order. Which are still disasters, but less so Trump 1.0

empireOfLove2@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 16 Jan 17:35 next collapse

They’re going to pressure Moscow by… pressuring Ukraine via cold-turkey aid shutoff lol

Nougat@fedia.io on 16 Jan 17:47 next collapse

Let me guess, it's a "sanctions plan" that contains weaker sanctions than are already being applied.

FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world on 16 Jan 18:03 next collapse

Between Israel and Ukraine, there are a lot of leftists out there who were just plain wrong in their assumption that Trump’s election would make matters worse for both.

We’ll see if these changes hold, but from where we’re all sitting, there’s been more progress on international initiatives in two days in the in the last four years.

ThePowerOfGeek@lemmy.world on 16 Jan 18:19 next collapse

I mean, we do have a previous example of a Donald Trump presidency. So it’s not that unreasonable to anticipate that he will sow chaos on the international scene, given that that’s exactly what happened last time. Unlike pretty much every ‘new’ president (i.e. not an incumbent returning to office immediately after a 4 year term), he’s a known quantity.

Edited for clarity.

lewdian69@lemmy.world on 16 Jan 18:25 next collapse

Wat? Nothing has actually happened. There have been headlines about a cease fire, that have already been contradicted by Netanyahu himself, and this is just talk with no substance currently. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world on 16 Jan 21:53 collapse

Better than listening to what we’ve heard for the past 15 months: pretend remorse while the US government keeps handing over WMD’s to a genocide.

GBU_28@lemm.ee on 16 Jan 18:34 next collapse

You.mean Logan act violations and cheap talk?

FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world on 16 Jan 21:52 collapse

shrugs

Could not care less, and I’m guessing the Palestinians won’t either when the ceasefire begins.

forrgott@lemm.ee on 16 Jan 20:16 collapse

Oh really? What progress?

Seriously. What the fuck are you talking about?

FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world on 16 Jan 21:51 collapse

Specifically referring to the coming ceasefire in Israel, but there’s been reporting on a path to peace in the Ukraine/Russia war too, which I’m glad to hear about.

Glasgow@lemmy.ml on 16 Jan 22:01 next collapse

It’s a ceasefire in Gaza in return for more of the West Bank and the option to go back to Gaza whenever they want.

FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world on 16 Jan 22:05 collapse

I have no doubt that this isn’t an altruistic move, but it’s better than what’s happening right now. Genocide Joe gave Israel carte blanche to slaughter people.

Glasgow@lemmy.ml on 16 Jan 22:19 collapse

Which they still have, this is just for optics and enables the right wing faction that’s blocking the ceasefire to further their goals in the erasure of all Palestine.

FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world on 16 Jan 22:22 collapse

Yup, for a few more days, because Joe’s still president, and the most consistent aspect of his presidency was his delight in bloodying his hands.

Glasgow@lemmy.ml on 16 Jan 23:03 collapse

What? They wouldn’t be agreeing to it if it weren’t better for Israel. Adelson bought the West Bank off Trump for $100m

small44@lemmy.world on 16 Jan 22:31 next collapse

Natanyaho already withdrew from the deal. I still way for the us to completely stop giving aids and weapons to israel

Iheartcheese@lemmy.world on 16 Jan 22:34 collapse

Haven’t like 70 people been killed since the ceasefire started?

FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world on 16 Jan 22:39 collapse

No. It doesn’t start until Sunday. At this point it’s just a plan.

superkret@feddit.org on 16 Jan 18:02 next collapse

ooh, sanctioning Russia to force them to stop their attack! That’s such a new and great idea!!
I wonder why the US and EU hadn’t thought of that, before very stable genius Trump came up with it.

CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org on 16 Jan 18:38 next collapse

You know, even if it’s the exact same shit, I’ll take it. Just feeding Ukraine to Russia was on the table.

superkret@feddit.org on 16 Jan 18:41 collapse

My point is: All the western states have already been sanctioning Russia for years now.

Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works on 16 Jan 23:21 next collapse

It’s news because everyone assumed he would just stop sending stuff to Ukraine and saying Russia, you get whatever you want to claim.

corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca on 17 Jan 02:10 next collapse

Everyone already understood that, my dude.

dogslayeggs@lemmy.world on 17 Jan 20:38 collapse

I think what that person is saying is: even if Trump tries (and fails) by doing the same shit that’s already been tried and failed, that is STILL better than what Trump hinted at doing, which is feeding Ukraine to the wolves.

gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world on 16 Jan 19:08 collapse

Bold of you to assume Trump will do what he says anonymous sources say he will

gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world on 16 Jan 19:07 next collapse

Advisers to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump are developing a comprehensive sanctions strategy aimed at facilitating a diplomatic resolution to the Russia-Ukraine war, Bloomberg reported on Jan. 16, citing anonymous sources familiar with the discussions.

Alternative headline, “People in Trump’s administration who are slightly less beholden to Russia than he is float trial balloon that Donald will slap down with a tweet when he cares enough to even say anything about it”

mercano@lemmy.world on 17 Jan 00:11 next collapse

Trump said he’d end the war in a day. If it’s not over by Tuesday, I may start thinking he wasn’t being honest.

Maggoty@lemmy.world on 17 Jan 10:52 collapse

It would just be absolutely hilarious, in the darkest way if Trump turned out to be the most progressive leader we’ve had since FDR. Like the universe is giving Monty Python energy.
