Gulf allies complain US didn't notify them of Iran attacks and ignored their warnings, sources say (apnews.com)

The Trump administration is confronting mounting discontent from allies in the Persian Gulf who have complained they were not given adequate time to prepare for the torrent of Iranian drones and missiles bombarding their countries in retaliation for strikes launched by the U.S. and Israel.

Officials from two Gulf countries said their governments were disappointed in the way the U.S. has handled the war, particularly the initial attack on Iran last Saturday. They said their countries were not given advance notice of the U.S.-Israeli attack and complained the U.S. had ignored their warnings that the war would have devastating consequences for the entire region.

We’re gonna lose military bases over this, and likely never get them back

Bibi wants to go back to being our only option over there, and he’s clearly willing to make everyone else hate America to accomplish that.

Because Bibi wants to wipe them all out, and he can’t do that why they host US bases

Pickleideas@lemmy.world on 06 Mar 12:47 next collapse

We see a lot of hand-wringing from Democrats, it’ll at least be interesting to see if every government in the world is equally impotent in the face of catastrophe

FerretyFever0@fedia.io on 06 Mar 13:22 collapse

They typically are. If there were more politicians with spines, we wouldn't be in any of these situations, and yes, I do mean any of them. And as we all know, there's a LOT.

Maeve@kbin.earth on 06 Mar 13:12 next collapse

Why are you so willing to give a free pass to the United States? We were never on the right side without there being economic plunder for the already wealthy.

porcoesphino@mander.xyz on 06 Mar 15:32 collapse

By “free pass” do you mean “only point out issues with Bibi”? I personally wouldn’t call that a free pass but if that is what you mean, I get your comment, if it isn’t then I probably need it explained to me

Who’s “we”? USA? In that case that’s good, you don’t need military bases all over the world.

porcoesphino@mander.xyz on 06 Mar 15:30 collapse

They clearly mean the USA and if you read slightly further they also cover at least one reason the US losing bases is bad for people besides the US:

Because Bibi wants to wipe them all out, and he can’t do that why they host US bases

I’m not trying to say the US should have bases by the way, your comment just seems to be shooting from the hip and filled with emotion enough that you’re not reading

The US doesn’t need any help on that front.

The countries that were giving trump planes a year ago are now “rethinking their investments in regards to America”.

I guarantee without Bibi those countries would still have a positive view of trump

Rationale companies already hated him, this is making far right authoritarian dictators hate him too.

Leaving Israel as our only ally in the region in an attempt to guarantee support even after trump leaves office.

RIotingPacifist@lemmy.world on 06 Mar 12:33 next collapse

Well stop being allies then!

SwingingTheLamp@piefed.zip on 06 Mar 13:48 collapse

I would imagine the U.S. is like a grizzly bear: Occasionally, it mauls you, but it’s somewhat better to be an ally than to be its prey.

a4ng3l@lemmy.world on 06 Mar 13:57 next collapse

Yeah but now that the bear has found the meth cache it’s becoming less and less bearable…

Once upon a time USA was a rational actor. Now not so much.

Trump has made clear America has no allies, only proxies and supplicants.

The one exception is israel and that’s because of the capture of US media, politics and business by Zionist fanatics

WhatAmLemmy@lemmy.world on 06 Mar 14:28 next collapse

The Epstein-Trump criminal syndicate was an Israeli-American intelligence operation. That’s the ONLY scenario where all of this makes sense. That’s the only scenario where all of this, including the American Nazi parties rise to power, lead by the Epstein class, was allowed to happen.

There is no chance in hell these “intelligence” agencies weren’t complicit in the worlds most high-profile corporate oligarchs, billionaires, and royalty frequenting a pedo-brothel for more than 2 decades. We already know they had mountains of evidence for most of that time. They’re the only ones who have visibility of, and could cease all law enforcement investigations of, all perpetrators across the developed world. Epstein used unencrypted gmail comms to discuss their crimes because they knew they were protected by the overarching surveillance apparatus.

Everybody knows that in international politics there are no friends, only interests. That’s not news.
What Trump is doing new is that he’s not furthering American interests but actually heavily damaging them. You can’t trust crazy people, even if your interests align, because they might do this: act against their own interests. Makes them an impossible partner.

arrrse@piefed.social on 06 Mar 12:23 next collapse

Usa is acting in a way that should fend off every single ally except for Israel. Wonder if the gulf states will move away from them after this shitshow. I suppose a new Iran would be a welcome thing for most of them though

Buffalox@lemmy.world on 06 Mar 12:45 collapse

If Trump succeeds he may be forgiven, that’s how it usually goes.
But there’s a very significant risk/chance, that this won’t go well for USA. We can already see how ill prepared they are, especially since this is allegedly planned since November! Already as many patriot missiles have been used, as Ukraine have gotten through 4 years of war with Russia. It’s an insane way to prioritize help to Israel over Ukraine!!

Compared to desert storm, this is amateur hour. Maybe a president with severe dementia isn’t the best commander in chief?

porcoesphino@mander.xyz on 06 Mar 15:36 next collapse

I’m curious what you mean by “succeed” here. I’m assuming not “Trump holds a press conference says he’s done and sells some questionable statements as why”. I’m assuming you have something more concrete but I’m not sure what it is. Levelling the place like what happened in Palestine? Sending in the army to help with a regime change like they did in Iraq? Waking up tomorrow and there is a pro-US christian government in place that’s sycophantic to Trump?

Buffalox@lemmy.world on 06 Mar 18:13 collapse

You are right, I don’t give a shit about what Trump or the white house may say. And I think by far the most people don’t either.
Succeed is by the definitions stated for the attack, a regime change in Iran to something more US friendly, and a stop to Iran supported terrorism.
Claiming a stop of the development of nukes is purely propaganda, because Iran had already agreed to that.

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world on 06 Mar 21:17 collapse

I’m statesian and i don’t know how tf we are supposed to succeed in any of this iran war bullshit. Surrendering now immediately and giving them Krasnov? Best option for everyone involved, but that is so improbable that only krasnov has mentioned total surrender and he always chickens out.
