Russia is waging a renewed — and increasingly overt — campaign of reproductive pressure on women, says Irina Fainman, an activist and founder of the Emergency Contraception Storage Fund. In the name of boosting birth rates, authorities have spent the last year seeking to discourage women from having abortions while steadily decreasing access to safe procedures.
Measures that were once quietly implemented are now openly acknowledged. In November, for example, the Russian Orthodox metropolitan in Saratov issued a directive assigning a priest to every women’s health clinic in the city. Their task: dissuading women from having abortions by framing the procedure as sinful. “In the past, officials avoided drawing attention to priests working with women’s health clinics,” Fainman says. “Now they talk about it openly.”
Similar church-led anti-abortion campaigns have appeared elsewhere. In the Vologda region, the local perinatal center has held weekly prayer services before an icon known as the “Helper in Childbirth” since December. (The regional governor, Georgy Filimonov, is known for his anti-abortion views.)

They are idiots. People don’t have children because life is hard and perspectives are grim. Not because women refuse to give birth while men are willing to.
The kid would have to come out like one long strand of spaghetti unless he opts for a C-section.
I’m just pointing out, as of my last information - being gay in russia is a punishable offense.
It is not a big leap from there to forced to term pregnancies.
Next step would be breeding farms. Yaay!
You know … they could actually pay for the mother a huge amount (for the wrecker that pregnancies are actually are) And later for the kids upkeeping.
Is it? I heard that talking about gays in positive way is a crime there (so called “gay propaganda”) but being gay isn’t punishable.
The gay propaganda is broad enough that it means that people are allowed to be gay if they pretend to be heterosexual.
Like in all fascist regimes, application of the law is arbitrary, but if the regime wants to get rid of gay person, then they will happily label their “lifestyle” as gay propaganda.
Let’s say that they are not safe, and there are no protection against discrimination or violence.
So if you see a gay person smiling and enjoying life…is that gay propaganda? Don’t you see how people can take advantage of the law to punish gay people for existing?
