U.S. prepares for new military strikes against Iran (www.cbsnews.com)

The Trump administration was preparing Friday for a fresh round of military strikes against Iran, according to sources with direct knowledge of the planning, even as diplomacy continued.

Some members of the U.S. military and intelligence community canceled their plans for the Memorial Day weekend in anticipation of possible strikes, several sources said.

Defense and intelligence officials began updating recall rosters for U.S. installations overseas as tranches of troops stationed in the Middle East rotate out of theater, part of an effort to reduce the American military footprint in the region amid concern about possible Iranian retaliation.

“The President always maintains all options at all times, and it is the job of the Pentagon to be ready to execute any decision the Commander-in-Chief could make,” Kelly said.

That’s a nice way to say Trump doesn’t have a clue, but if he says jump they’ll jump.

We created the IRGC , taught them how to torture because the British needed help with oil because Iran wanted to nationalize the oil. We need to liberate the people not bomb them.

Unpopular opinion. I talked to an Iranian colleague with family in Iran and he said the people are very supportive of the US strike. Said usually it’s 1 army death for 1000 civilians and with the strikes it is finally 1000 army guys for 1 civ dearh. An interesting take that is not portrayed in western media.

atzanteol@sh.itjust.works on 23 May 12:31 next collapse

I believe it. People forget what was going on in Iran before the strikes. Massive protests that were brutally put down.

But since on lemmy “America is bad” then that automatically means “Iran is good”.

People forget what was going on in Iran before the strikes. Massive protests that were brutally put down.

People also forget what happened before the protests. The sanctions led to the high prices that made the merchants protest.

It’s like Syria or Libya, first there are the protests, then the military actions of the West.

The unrest followed a sharp depreciation of the Iranian rial, rising inflation, and widespread shortages linked to international sanctions and government mismanagement.

Turkey – Foreign minister Hakan Fidan stated that the protests in Iran were “being manipulated from abroad by Iran’s rivals”,

America didn’t make the regime kill thousands of protesters.

plyth@feddit.org on 23 May 13:51 collapse

It’s the tankie situation. Use violence and maintain the regime and be hated or do nothing and be overthrown. Those protests are organised, among others by the son of the former shah. It’s trading one dictatorship for another.

There is no way that the regime gives up their power voluntarily. So it’s possible to say that America caused the deaths by seeding the protests.

America should not be the world police.

The irony of the people that complain that “on <x> people just say America Bad” is that you’re just exposing your own ignorance at this point.

“America bad” is your own cope for reality. So you believe “it’s complicated” comments that make you feel comfortable and like you have some non biased take.

You dont. You’re coping for having to deal with the reality that the majority of the world’s population has had to experience for decades by having bombs dropped on them. You’re coping so hard that you agreed with a comment with made up ratios and a “trust me bro” source. 160 school children were confirmed killed on the FIRST day of the war in ONE strike. Did we kill 160,000 IRGC that day that I’m unaware of? Use your brain mate. Please.

Edit: Technically it was multiple strikes on the same school. Because, when we bomb schools we gotta make sure we hit it a second time once all of the first responders go in and try to help dying children.

Iran killed thousands of protesters.

wheezy@lemmy.ml on 23 May 14:29 next collapse

Trump literally admitted to arming agitators within the protest. This is American Imperialism 101 dude. Sanctions, Agitation, wait for state violence to occur, bomb the fuck out of everything.

You know what would help the people of other countries improve their governments and civil rights? If America stopped fucking with them.

I don’t think most people would be surprised by this.

However, it in no way justifies what the dumbass American government is doing. And, it’s not the reason for doing it. Neither the Americans or Israelis give a damn about Iranians.

BC_viper@lemmy.world on 23 May 13:20 next collapse

The Iranian government needs to burn to the ground and be wiped from the face of the planet. We have no room on this world for them.

But the trump-epstein war was the absolute worst way to go about it. And its yet another war that’s going to go on forever because Iran is no where near beat. All its doing is making everything else worse.

aljazeera.com/…/us-and-israel-planned-to-install-…

It was reported by NYT that Trump, Hegseth and Netanyahu’s plan for regime change was to install former Iranian President Ahmadinejad, someone with views largely aligned with the group currently in power… so it follows to me that the US-Israeli-plant Shah that many Iranians were calling for was not even part of the US’ regime change playbook. The plan reportedly fell apart after the US-Israeli jailbreak plan was to blow up Ahmadinejad’s house, injuring him in the process.

Not to mention, bombing a school full of children surely saved many civilian lives?
